I'm of the opinion that this chap is closer to the dev than he's letting on.

You defend the app to the hilt and also come up with a promo code... hmmmm

haha yeah it's totally obvious. The guys first post was about this...

I will give it a few days before I judge it, but I have been sitting at my desk and it is telling me I have moved several times. Right now the location is so far off I would not be able to find the phone using it.

Again, not bashing, just telling my experience for the past hour or so. I will update after the weekend when I can give it a real test.

it dosen't give you everything mobile me gives you with find my iphone...can you remotely wipe it? send a message to the finder? initiate audible tones in case the phone is hidden?

and you guys haven't figured out how to get mobile me for free yet? just keep signing up for free trials every 60 days....I've been doing this for 2 years now

They let you do this? Do you have to keep changing any information you give to them about yourself (like name and email address)?

nope the only things to be mindful of when doing this is that if you sync your contacts with mobile me, sync them somewhere else like yahoo so you don't lose them when you cancel and you will lose any emails that you recieve under your me.com address...I think Apple is unofficially sanctioning this because they send a nice email a week before your trial ends to let you know to cancel or start paying...honestly I only use it for find my iPhone now since the yahoo contact sync works so well

One thing to remember, and this is quite elementary...

Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars->MobileMe->Find My iPhone, make sure it is on, assuming you have a .me account tied to the device.

typical after just buying the app.

Yeah, I told the guy I'd take him at his word but I'm starting to thing his word is poo. I questioned his connection in my first post.... I just think it's a bit strange and disingenuous for the guy to come in, clearly be a hack for the app/developer and then lie about it.

Am I able to give a web address to friends so they can track me in real time if they want? It would be nice when on the road being able to give the link and let who ever I'm going to see be able to see where I am and how fast I'm moving.

Why the hell do you guys automatically think he's connected to the app?

Haven't you guys ever found out about something that you thought was awesome, and want to let others know about it? And haven't you ever gotten pissed off when a bunch of haters who never tried it decide to troll it, for no reason other than to be dicks.

Thanks for the great app OP. It works well. :)

And thanks for taking the time to let us know about it.

So if you decide you dont want it because of battery life, how do you get it off your phone? How exactly is it being tracked if you have your GPS turned off? I just put my number on the Google website and it shows where my phone is. I didnt buy the app.

You remove it by deleting it and it is gone. The app needs to be installed on your phone for it to work.

Anyone know the web address for sharing this with friends? I can actually bring up my own latitude page because it keeps bringing up this stupid error saying there might be a phishing app on it and would I like to ignore or go back? If I click ignore it just pops up again once the page reloads!

I bought it I tried it - This game is doing his best to sell the app AND comes up with a promo code yet he has no connection to the seller. Come on!! At least we're being civil about it.

ON ANOTHER NOTE - This app doesn't work very well, at least here in the UK. I'm not quite sure how far apart our cell towers are but I moved about a mile and never updated my location, it's still showing me at a road a mile away instead of at my home location.

On a more serious note - There is a serious problem with the backgrounding API, when I close the app (and i mean from the multitasking dock) the location services arrow remains in the bar at the top. I have to go in to settings > location services and manually disable it. When i enable it again, the arrow re-appears. No idea how this made it in to the appstore.

EDIT - it also stays on when i reboot the phone. The app is definitely not showing in my multitasking dock.

if i was a thief i would just turn it off.

Well maybe the inability to turn it of is a security feature.

Like I said in the post above - I've had to delete the app because it wont bloody turn off - even after a reboot

who says you need to be 200lbs to have a gun that he could use to shoot you in the freaking face
Some of us are lucky enough to live in free states without draconian gun laws. The State of Texas gave me a handy little card which allows me to carry a handgun on my person.

I am not implying that a phone is worth someone risking their life over, rather that I would hate to live in constant fear of some low life "shooting me in the freaking face."

Not that having a gun makes one immune from being shot, but it definitely helps your odds of being able to stop a threat. Texas also has provisions in the law Re: using deadly force to protect property.

I've been waiting for Google Latitude to work on the iPhone for a couple of years. This is great news.... Personally I could care less about the app with regards to stolen iPhones. What I think is cool is that my Mom could follow me around from Canada and see where I am in Japan just for kicks.

I would turn it off when I hit the love hotels though.

Are the any dedicated tracking apps out there that I can use for GPS like tracking. Technically it's IP location tracking which these days is virtually as accurate as GPS. Close enough unless you're some kind of spy or something.

Google Latitude has worked on the iphone for at least a year or two now. All you need to do is go to www.google.com/mobile/latitude and you can all save $2..

Personally I also like that MobileMe allows you to nuke your phone. Ultimate fail safe.

Lost my iPhone today - but found it again thanks to an app...

Was out walking with some students todays and got back to base to discover my iP4 was missing. I had been doing some photography with Pro HDR (another great app) and dropped it in long grass on the side of the road. But i remembered i had FoneHome running on it (which i had not touched more weeks, and was still running perfectly even after reboots and OS updates). So i borrowed a students HTC Hero to access the FH website and see where it was and sound the siren. Found it in no time.

I honestly dont think i would have found it without this app as we walk about 6 miles in the country, certainly not before the weather damaged it.

So stoked, best £1.19 i have spent and my fav app forever more!

I have no affiliation with this app, just wanted to post a success story :)

Buy it!!! http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/fonehome-phone-tracker-find/id378450421?mt=8
