You guys aren't considering the cost of manufacturing the air. The parts cost clearly hasn't gone down enough and the technology to get to ten hours of battery life to support touch id and 2gigs of ram in the same air case simply isn't there yet.

Yeah it is, it's just not there for apple to make their normal 300% profit.

The iPad has been out since 2007 and the OP has just now decided to tell us he doesnt see the value in one. Hahahahahah.........tell that to the 170 million people in the world who do buddy.

2010, not 2007.

Gotta love the "If it exists, Apple should give it to me for free" people.....

Businesses exist to make money. Not to pander to your whiny, entitled desires. Apple is a business - they make money by making products people love and use and love to use.

As for the Air - I like it. It's exactly what I was looking for out of the big brother when I switched to the mini last year.....but dammit if I'm not hooked on that mini form factor.

I'll be waiting and purchasing a 32 LTE retina mini when they arrive. Save myself the $100 and get the form factor I still prefer. Apple did a great job with the Air though.

And despite my snarky comment at the quoted poster - I do agree they should move to a standard 32 GB. Flash storage HAS come down in price and Apple could afford to make the switch. Kill the 16 GB (except in the mini/iPad 2 spot) and go with 32/64/128 in other areas - starting at $499 of course.

I was hoping we'd see this in the iPad line even before the iPhone line. Still think its happening soon - not this year, so my bet is next year, we'll see bumped up standard storage.

I agree apple has every right to make a profit. But to your stated point, they could make a 290% profit and still include a standard 32 gig entry. My whole point is that apples margins are the highest in the industry so they can literally nickel and dime and still make a profit. But it's becoming more and more clear that they are paying as much attention to Wall Street as they are to their core roots.

Except they aren't 300%.....that's a made up number.

The REAL profit margins are roughly 36% - healthy profits, not obscene or greedy like some people think. Businesses across ALL industries are being squeezed by the entitlement mentality. It's not only prevalent with consumers but also with businesses who buy services.

While I would like for Apple to raise the entry storage options, I'm not going to fault them for not doing so because they are being squeezed profit-wise everywhere else (despite storage options being cheaper and Apple still offering them at 2010 prices, their profit margins continue to decrease each year because things like retina displays actually DO cost some money).

Anyways - do whatever you want. No one forces anyone to buy these products. If you think they are overpriced, go for something different. The idea that one has to whine and moan about it as some "fight against the greedy corporations" is ludicrous.

Read in an article a few days ago that the cost of materials for production is around $275, presumably for a base model.

Then you gotta add in transportation and labor and a myriad of other expenses of running a business.

Im talking about the additional costs associated with adding in touchid 2 gig of ram etc....

Ohh I see.

Reading comprehension fail.

Plus not to mention supply issues. I don't know if it's been resolved by now but Apple wasn't able to keep up with demand for the 5s and that's just one model.
