Same thing on my 14 Pro, even after 16.0.2. Sounds like it’s a software bug, and I only learned that on the forum. But it’s frustrating to feel like you might have to call Apple before the return period ends or else potentially be stuck with an AppleCare refurb (if it was a hardware issue).

I’ve noticed this on my 14 Pro too. And it’s not a gradual change in color tone, it’ll be “cool” when I first unlock the phone and then after a few seconds it instantly switches to a much warmer True Tone color.
I just had this happen to me twice today.

I’m glad I’m not alone. I experienced the same issue since day 1. Latest update did not fix it.

Turning off AOD fixes it, so I suspect it’s a software bug.

I’ve already reported the feedback to Apple. I encourage more people to do the same.

I first noticed this behavior a day or two after I got my 14PM. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does, its extremely noticeable. I have also noticed the behavior when viewing photos that has been mentioned. I have not had either issue recur since I disabled AOD two days ago.

I reported my findings to Apple, but since this thread is literally the only place I have seen discussing it, the issues are either super rare, or no one has noticed. I don't have the highest hopes for a speedy patch.

Add me to the list. True tone and autobrightness changes are often delayed and abrupt. Not the 10 seconds the OP is seeing, but enough to see change instead of the smooth transition that wasn't noticeable on previous devices.

I can confirm the same with my 14 Pro. It looks quite ridiculous picking up the phone and then noticing how the screen changes to a completely different color scheme in a blink of an eye.

I hope they return the smooth transition soon.

I’ve had this issue on and off with my 14 Pro Max. Today, I had one instance where the phone first adjusted to a change in the ambient lighting after about 5 minutes of use. Other than that, it has been just a few seconds too slow. I too assume this is a software issue that will get fixed down the road.

Noticed this too on my 14 Pro. Sometimes it takes 4–5 sec for the True Tone to suddenly kick in.

Having a similar issue I think. Plus my phone's display settings set it to be dimmer than a similar specced phone with the same settings. I manually increased the brightness and then it was similar. But I guess the software in each phone regarding screen brightness settings, even if of a similar model, is different?

I didn't notice early on but the transition from a bright screen to a dimmer screen is very instant. It feels kind of strange.

Latest update didn’t fix this :(
Not going to say it’s fixed for me yet, but I haven’t seen the behavior since I updated, and I’ve purposefully locked and unlocked it multiple times in varying lighting conditions.

Nope, still broken.

I’ve turned True Tone off and set night shift to 25%. Personally prefer temp this way.

Edit. Couldn’t live this way. Turned True Tone back. Guess it’s a love hate relationship 🤣

I also find the brightness changes while staying the same setting wise in the control center. I set the brightness in like 10 percent of the control thing and its bright enough at my desk.
a minute later I check something and can barely see. setting has not changed. I move the brightness up and it seemingly keeps super low.
