At first I misread the headline as TSMC Struggling to Make 3-Nanometer Chips for Apple

Then I noticed the important word:

TSMC Struggling to Make *Enough* 3-Nanometer Chips for Apple

Let's hope TSMC can improve their output. It's definitely better than not being able to produce them at all!

:p

We're at a point in die sizing that is almost impossible to perfect. Its hard to blame TSMC, when it's unlikely anyone else could meet this demand today. BTW 3nm is 12 atoms wide. I realize the wires are actually larger than 3nm, but we're honesty pushing up against the laws of physics. It's unlikely Apple will be able to release chips on a smaller process, each year. We'll be lucky to see a 3 year cadence.

there goes the mac pro!
Time for plans B and C
plan B bigger mac studio with maybe one X16 at X4 pci-e slot (NO GPU) and storage cards the user can upgrade (apple only like the 2019 mac pro)
plan C upgraded X86-64 mac pro like the (2019 but with newer CPU / chipset / socket) that also gives it pci-e 4.0 or 5.0

This Nanometer news has been rinse and repeat for the last 25 years! Never ever have they enough speed and yield.
Will it ever stop? :)

This is why it will be a good thing once Intel gets its fab business built up. Apple can then choose from multiple companies to produce its chips.
If you go by the same publication Intel is having to buy their 3nm stock from TSMC. Looks like Intel has already given up.

2nm & 1nm in 2025 & 2027, respectively, is gonna be mind blowing I bet. Probably All day battery 🔋 life efficiency and super heavy duty graphics performance

ASi Mac Pro is a low-volume high-margin product, should be a no-brainer for Apple to use those wafers to "clear the pipe" for further M3-family/A17 wafer production...
