For me this has been a huge issue, the pencil is the key factor because of which I bought the iPad Pro and after a day and a half in which I didn't use the pencil the battery went down from 100% to 84%, that is almost a deal breaker for me, that means that after 1 week or less if I don't use the pen it will be fully discharged. For now I just turn the bluetooth off but that is not a great solution for me as now I have to phisically connect the pencil every time and I can no longer use continuity on my iPad.

I really don't understand how Apple couldn't think this through any better.
One minute of charge via the IPP Lightning port will give you a couple of hours of use though - so it's not exactly a massive inconvenience.

The pencil battery doesn't drain unless you are moving it somewhat near the IPP, I have charged to 100%, sat it on my table and as long as I don't pick it up or move it, it sleeps and no battery drain. I've left it for 6 hours or more and when pick it up, still 100%.

Really? I had the pencil on it's box, and I only picked it up once and placed it in a sleeve I bought after that I didn't move it at all and my battery drained 16% in a day and a half. Maybe my pencil is defective.

I have the same issue.
Charged the pencil to 100%. Used it about 20 minutes total.
2 days later I get a pencil is almost out of power alert.

Had to be away from home today from early am until midnight, IPP was 100% and Pencil at 100% when I left, came home and both was still at 100 %. (Approx 14 hours)

Bluetooth and wifi was left on, Smart Cover on IPP and Pencil was in pouch nearby.
I routinely charge IPP overnight and unplug in morning, then charge Pencil to 100% in am. ( only takes about 20 minutes or less to 100%, usually about 10 minutes) Have done this way since purchase.

Maybe you could try charging your Pencil to full every morning for a few times and see if that helps, I'm wondering if it's not calibrating properly and that could be the issue.

That's great when you are not moving about, but what if you pack the iPP and Pencil in a bag and are walking about? Does that drain the Pencil battery? If so, that could be a problem.

No way is this how it works. I am on my 2nd pencil from Apple because the pencil drains even when sleeping. No way yours is at 100 percent after 14 hours. I'm calling BS. The second pencil does the same exact thing. Drains while idle. So does my wife's. So does my brothers. Every one I know who has the Apple pencil are all telling me the same thing. Drains while idle. Reports all over the web say the same thing, yet you have the rare pencil that holds a complete charge after 14 hours.

This is yet another blunder by Apple who I believe have lost their attention to detail in many of their recent releases. I love my Apple products but feel Apple has sadly lost their way. We are conditioned to accept the flaws because the next Gen will fix it. My 1 year old ip6+ is laggy as hell, even though the specs on the device are more than capable. Yet no fixes....until the next Gen.

I am not one of those people who threatens to leave for Android. I love my Apple products. I am just frustrated with the direction of Apple under Tim Cook. Too many bugs for a premium price.

I couldn't tell you what my pencil does, I take it out of my bag and use it when I need it. I don't check the %, i don't care if it is 100, 50, 20 whatever, as long as it works. The other day for the first time (because I randomly charge it) I go the warning that the pencil battery was low. It never died on me, I did give it a short minute or two charge when I was between tasks. Of course the attention to detail to be able to charge pencil from iPad has been great. Any other stylus I have ever used seemed to die/or be dead more often and then to charge i would need to hopefully have the proper cable with me to charge, and/or have a power adaptor or usb (computer or battery back up) to plug it into.

I would highly recommend just using the products, and not being obsessed with what % is it. It by far has been the best stylus I have ever used, either on any of my iPads or my surface pro.

No bs, just stated the fact. Mine holds a charge very well when in its sleep mode.
That's amazing mine always discharges even when not in use, fortunetley the fact that it charges quickly helps a lot, but I just wonder why don't include an off switch, it would be great

I charge mine and use it hours everyday, never turn Bluetooth off, I haven't ever let it sit for longer than that one day when I was away. Are you turning Bluetooth on and off? i haven't shut my BT off since purchase/set up.

Mine too. I can let my Pencil and IPP sit all day and my Pencil might lose a percentage or two of charge. I'm not sure what these people are doing.

Today I unpacked my brand new Pencil and used it for the first time. It started at 78% battery and now after 5 hours is at 16%. I didn't use it for more than 45 minutes in total.

you used it alot? or left it on the side?

I wrote above, I didn't use it for more than a total of 45 minutes.
It has never been charged though so maybe after the first couple of charges the battery life will be better.

Sorry mate didn't read your post properly

Yeah give it a full charge and see if it's any different. Shame there isn't an off switch I agree with that. Hoping to get mine by 5th feb.

Mine seems to drain quite a bit as well. I use it for probably 30 minutes every day or two (haven't been drawing enough lately) but I always have to sit it in the connector to charge, despite not being used much at all.

It does stay stuck to the SmartCover (bought the Moxiware magnet) when not in use. I wonder if just being connected to it causes extra drain vs being left on a table in another room.

Second day with the Pencil, fully charged this morning. Now at 6 pm the battery is at 72%. I used it more than yesterday.

The Pencil does go into sleep if it's not used. I've noticed the battery widget from the notification center on the iPad disappears from time to time. This means the Pencil is asleep. If I move the Pencil it wakes up and the widget appears again on the iPad.

I've had mine since the end of November. Use the Pencil every day. I couldn't tell you how fast the battery drains while idle. Nor has it ever run out while I've been using it.

Why is that? Because I just use the thing instead of obsessing about watching the battery meter.

If I remember at night then I plug it in using the adapter and let it charge. If I get the battery warning then I plug it into my iPad for a bit in-between tasks.

Seriously guys: just use it. It is fine. Plug it in when you can... and just don't worry about it.

Nicely said. I wasn't overly concerned about it either when I first got it. For me it was a given that the battery should at least last a couple of days or more (which it does for me).

Typical response. Works for you so the issue does not exist ;)

I am on my third apple pencil, and now I can say that my current pencil goes into standby when idle. That means I have had 2 defective pencils and I would imagine so do many others. There is probably a bad batch of pencils out there which brings me back to my previous comment. That Apple has lost their attention to detail in many of their recent releases and that we are conditioned to accept the flaws because it is Apple and the next Gen will fix it. Guaranteed the next gen comes with an on/off switch.

Responses work both ways..you had no problem calling bs when I replied that my pencil went into standby, because yours and others did not. Typical response? ;)
Glad you now have a Pencil that sleeps when it should, enjoy!

That still may be true. For all we know you changed something you were doing with the pencil in between your second and third exchange. We may never know but I will give you the benefit of the doubt. In any case, it's good your pencil works now.

Glad you now have a Pencil that sleeps when it should, enjoy!
Tell me if you have noticed this. The pencil is the only Bluetooth device I have connected to my IPP. If I don't move the pencil for a long period of time, the Bluetooth icon goes black on the IPP. As soon as I move the pencil, the icon lights back up. That pretty much proves to me that the pencil is in standby when not being used.

One proof is the battery widget on the iPad. If it's gone from the Notification Center, that means Pencil is asleep.

Which never happened for me. The widget was always there. Checked first thing in the morning and widget was still there. As a matter of fact it's still there for my 3rd pencil replacement, however when I wake in the morning after a full charge I barly have lost 2 or 3 percent.

Hmmm...good point. Frustrations can run high when dealing with our beloved Apple devices.

Mine is in the original box it came with (carrying it in that until I get my moxiware) and it is still in the widget showing 72% from a 100% charge and minimal use today since 9am.
