Please post this in the proper thread:

I can't believe the band of clown Apple has became, it would never had happen during Steve Jobs era.

Sorry to have choose this forum for the complain, but a constant two month delivery is comical.

You want the new "Whingers" thread for this post.

I try to remember that this machine is being built in the hill country in the middle of Texas, by Americans. It is not being spit out of a Foxconn behemoth factory the size of Austin, in China.

This is clearly a popular new product, but the initial rush will die down, and it would bet the factory is sized to meet the expected ongoing demand.

I also think they rushed the go live date to meet their earlier promise, and had some supply chain issues happen unexpectedly.

When I inspect the order/delivery spreadsheet, it appears that the CTO boxes using the 256gig SSD are shipping the slowest. I upgraded my hex nMP only in the GPU, planning on upgrading memory and SSD as time goes on. There are several deliveries of D700 boxes with bigger SSD units, but boxes like mine are still undelivered. My feeling is that the 256 SSD are being put in the base nMP promised to the third party resellers, slowing the CTO boxes with 256 gig. Just an observation. Not like I have my nMP to mess with ATM.

Not sure about that.. I have a 1TB SSD and D700 in my 6core and I'm on week 6 of my wait. Haven't heard a peep.

I was gonna say that if figure the D700's or the 1 TB SSD (I couldn't find a Samsung 840 1 TB in stock when i looked in early December) are the bottle necks if we assume its a part shortage, not just slow assembly.

This might be because of weather issues in the eastern U.S. this week. A lot of airports had their runways closed.

Oh gosh, let's hope they don't ship it back to storage!
I checked the status of Newark international airport and they seem to have major ice issues and flight delays and cancellations. Damn..

I will place my order when the store says "Up to 3 business days".

If Apple will constrain the availability due to component costs (i.e. they don't want to waste money storing them without orders), they can do that, but I will not be one of those customers who spend 7000 Euro and wait 3 month.

My guess is that they currently pay premium prices for the Xeons and the ATI chips. This actually makes their margin change quite a lot due to currency fluctuatton.

You don't pay until it ships.

My life is "complicated" and I can't have a random delivery,

How is two months random?

If order 2.5 months in advance it would be there when you needed to start.
(if what have right now is broken or doesn't work that is a different issue about decisions made even further back in time. )

Instant gratification is an entirely different property than randomness.

Jobs era saw several production not be available in certain regions at all for months. This Mac Pro adjustment to demand isn't particularly that much different.

I suppose you preordered and then felt hurt by my comment on users that ordered blindly without to know anything about any delivery date.

I'm sorry you can't see how by doing it you encourage and support such very bad behavior. If it becomes a fairly noteworthy commercial success it will be a date generating on purpose scarcity management. I know there's nothing new, it makes even worse to support such crap.

The drama associated with the delivery of what I believe is likely a luxury item for you is hysterical. Good lord, I would love to see what happens to you when something bad actually occurs in your life. A computer delivery being delayed doesn't rank up there with "bad". This tells me your life is hardly complicated.

You can wait for the damn computer or you can buy a readily available iMac or a PC if that suits you. The clowns can't work faster for you nor would I wish they would.

Yeah, had the same thought until I saw my delivery going from Louisville to Newark back to Louisville ... going insane right now. Delivery date already went from monday to tuesday. These things really do annoy me now since it's already since end december I've been waiting.

Had to go back because somehow it escaped the mandatory NSA HW "upgrade".

I guess people have forgotten about the white iPhone 4? That happened on Jobs watch.

At this rate Weird Al will be right: "My new computer's got the clocks, it rocks
But it was obsolete before I opened the box!"

Not an Apple defender, but here are some points to ponder:

- component shortages. There are many unique parts supplied by others, and they may be in short supply, or have developed a problem

- technical issues discovered after ramping up. It only when you build hundreds or thousands that edge condition problems are uncovered. Here's hoping that this is not the case, or if so, Apple is making doubly sure that any nMP shipped is "perfect"

- I have a hard time believing that demand is considerably higher than forecast. These nMPs are trickling out, and the Apple stores are getting very few if any. Also, no advanced configs beyond the original 2 are being stocked.

Recall the White iPhone as OP suggested. Also the roll-out of the iMac a year or so ago that was trickling out before Christmas holiday season. Apple did finally comment on the reasons for both delays, but only after the issues were resolved.

The "radio silence" by Apple suggests that there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to get things right.

If things were perfect, and there were no component shortages, these things would be shipping in volume and be readily visible in all configurations.

So right now, the actual number of nMPs shipped is unknown. There is only conjecture; just like this posting.

Whatever the issue, we all hope it gets resolved quickly.

I waited a good 2-3 months for my B&W G3. Ordered it right away too.

My rev a 15" G4 aluminum powerbook had a long wait.

So yes, this happened on Jobs' watch too.

Mine is already on Germany now, on it's way to my city even though I'm not supposed to get it before Tuesday. I can see it arriving on Monday! How about yours?

Some people can withstand a long wait for what they want, some people are willing to wait for what they want, and some people do not like to wait for a long time. I am in the last group.

I really wanted and needed (still want and need) an NMP and ordered one as soon as I could place an order. But, the long waiting time made me cancel the order. I now use an oMP and an iMac. I will not place another order unless it will be shipped within a few days. If it always keeps a long waiting time, then I may forget about the nMP completely and get something else if my need warrants that.

At the current stage of computing technology, it is not wise to let customers wait for a long time. Note that it is no longer Steve's time in terms of both technology and competition.

I guess I'm lucky my 3,1 is functional, and not sold off before the new one arrives. I'm content to wait patiently, and watch others dash themselves on the rocks of despair.

Now if I was a real professional needing the chops of the nMP, and losing money waiting...

I've seen a lot of posts in different threads that begin with "if Steve were still alive this never would have happened"...

Quite right. Rumor has it he was going to kill off the Mac Pro.

No but macmall has had them for a month. Nobody wants a standard config, at least very few. I was going to wait until shipping times were better but just decided to order one today in a 6/1tb/32/d500 configuration. But if new thunderbolts come out before I get it I may just get a loaded iMac with 2 thunderbolts. We'll see.

Just wondering why one would want to buy a very expensive piece of electronics made by clowns in the first place.

a 2 month wait on a 12 month cycle is laughable. I'm guessing we won't see a V.2 for a while. If we do see a revision in that time and the back up still exists, it's just pure LOLz. The demand is NOT that high for these machines. It's got to be a manufacturing problem relating to scale or technical b.s..

I just ordered five 24-core systems from HP, and have a guaranteed eight day delivery.

Intel is not the bottleneck. Memory is not the bottleneck.

I'm pretty sure rolling up a laptop and shoving it in a tube and calling it a workstation is part of the problem. All this smoke and mirrors to push TB. I wonder why I even keep up with this brand anymore. This forum has turned into "get your daily dose of schadenfreude" I guess.

Just got my shipping notice. It will be a 2 month process as I ordered during the afternoon of the 19th, and it's supposed to be Wednesday.

I get my daily dose of schadenfreude from http://www.nomblog.com/ - things are not playing out according to the National Organization for Marriage's gameplan. ;)
