PSA: when deciding between a Pro and non-Pro model, a quick review with this site is mandatory: https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone-16-pro-max,iphone-15-pro-max,iphone-16-plus
I'm considering upgrading from a 15 Pro Max to a 16 Pro Max, but with 2x optical zoom, I thought maybe a 16 Plus would be enough. But then I compared the specs at the linked site...
Very helpful. Comparing the specs between the 16 pro and the 16, it’s no wonder the pro isn’t selling as well. The differences are pretty minimal unlike prior years.

Possibly clutching, anyone got a link to the wallpaper used in the preview shot?

Re the new phone, still find myself sitting debating whether to upgrade from iPhone 12 Pro Max or not. I know it will be a substantial upgrade but always seems to be the talk of “next years will be it.”

Had my 16 Pro Max since launch and to be honest its a slightly better version of my previous 13 Pro Max. The camera is better, but I haven't really done anything yet to see a vast difference. The battery life is better, a bit, and I am struggling to list anything else. Dynamic Island is something I was used to on a works phone I have so that isn't new.

One new feature I am not really using is the dedicated camera button. I don't seem to be in the habit of remembering it is there half the time and when I do I find it fiddly and it creates movement pressing it when taking the shot. You certainly can't use it for fast shots as you'd miss the subject.

The whole titanium thing is a piece of marketing spin too IMO. This phone could be aluminium for all I care.

Was thinking of getting the regular iPhone 16, but went for a refurbished 13 Pro instead for half the price basically. The only thing I'd want from the new ones is USB-C, but I charge mostly wirelessly so also not that big of a deal.

Like some others on this thread, I upgraded from the 13PM to the 16PM.

Aside from the upgraded display (its beautiful), overall speed, battery life, etc. , one of the most enjoyable features for me has been the Dynamic Island. As someone who's been dealing with "the notch" since the iPhone X, i've been pleasantly surprised with how useful the displayed information can be, based on what I'm doing. From directions, to battery life on my airpods, sports scores, etc. its been great.

Overall I'm quite happy I upgraded.
I did a similar jump and dynamic island was probably the biggest thing to make the phone easier to use. This was truly an apple moment for me, android has had holepunch for ages and did nothing with it. Then apple did it and turned it into a giant new feature.

Always on display and how well that works with maps navigation were the biggest changes that I really appreciated moving from a 13pm.

oh, and "finally" having USB-C charging so I can finally ditch all these odd proprietary cables.

Sure you can. You are comparing a 15PM with its shipping OS to a 16PM with its shipping OS. That seems a perfectly fair way to measure what I think is a lack of improvement in one year.
Different iOS versions can cause differences in battery life. So comparing two different phones on two different OS's says nothing about the difference in the actual batteries.

I have an iPhone 14PM and have upgraded every year or every other year since the original iPhone.

And I have no reason to upgrade my 14PM to a 16PM. Not for AI, not for the camera control thing. Not for the lack of colors. Not for Titanium.

Ditto. Ultimately it’s still just an iPhone. The last big change was faceID (x) and night mode camera (11). After that it’s been refinements. If you’re not a phone nerd it’s really not that big of a deal… with that said the 16 is tempting given how good is the base model this year.

I’m waiting for the three month review aka “why not wait nine more months for the 17 Pro” review.
Yep. As badly as I want to get rid of the lightning port.. I can wait. I could always get a 15 pro max if that was my only issue. What I really want to see is the fingerprint sensor on the power button like with the new iPad Airs.
