Apple doing a 5.4” is a clever move.. plenty of people who would a smaller phone with the latest spec. I’m keen to see how big the 6.1” comes in at.. anything like the iPhone 11 then I’m ok.. any bigger will make it a decision to be had!
Completely agree. I know the vibe on forums like these doesn’t tend to favour smaller phones, it seems most prefer the mid/big phones. I personally think a huge amount of ‘average joe‘ iPhone buyers (i.e. the ones that aren’t tech keenos like us and therefore probably don’t post on forums) will go for the smaller one, and I’d imagine overall it will be the biggest seller. I think feelings towards new tech is skewed on a forum like this as a much higher percentage of posters here are more concerned with having the latest tech than is the case in the general population. (That’s not a dig at posters on here!! Just something I remind myself of when reading threads etc).

Yea it's much different on here than Reddit. Reddit was ridiculous in the iPhone forum. So many more with their "There should be NO big phones because I don't use them!!!" I'm glad there will be a big phone now because it means more choices, and I don't care for smaller phones.

I do think as prices have crept up we have quite a healthy contingent of posters who don’t buy the greatest anymore. These last few years the XR, 11 and the upcoming 5.4” 12 are getting a lot of excitement. I’m into my tech and love seeing the innovations that come each year but don’t buy the Pro iPhones. Nice to look at but not something I want to own and I’m looking forward to the rumoured 12 Max which hopefully has a sensible UK price point.

If you have an Iphone x 256gb what is best, to sell it now on ebay and then hold out till the release of Iphone 12, and use a crappy phone for a month? Or buy the Iphone 12 on release and THEN sell my Iphone X on ebay. Just don't want a huge price drop in the price I am getting for my Iphone X. If the price won't fluctuate much I will hold out. I am based in the UK and seen my model going for £350-400 online.

I'm in a bind about what to do this year. I have a 5.8" XS and would love to move to a bigger size. I'd love a Pro Max but realistically I don't think it's worth the outlay for what I use my phone for most of the time.

Ever since my mom bought an SE 2, I've been really impressed with it. Even though the build quality doesn't feel as "premium" as the XS, it seems more durable and less prone to damage when dropped. I also love that red colour, but the SE is way too small for me.

So, now I'm thinking that I should maybe go for the non-Pro 12 Max this year. I know that most of the phone would represent an upgrade on my XS, but am a bit concerned about whether the display and camera differences would make it worthwhile.

Will be my first pre-order for launch day since the iPhone 6S Plus.

Definitely going for the 12 (5.4") 64GB - love the smaller handsets as I have small hands and don't like a large phone in my pocket. The 5.4" will definitely be pocket-able. Hoping pricing will be fairly close to the US equivalent, somewhere around £699 - £730.

Personally I think the iPhone 12 Max will be a much better phone than the XS and consider the camera tech is two years newer. Not sure about the screen but I’ve never seen a poor screen on any iPhone. It’s the iPhone I’m interested in and for me coming from an 8+ I think it’ll be a significant upgrade.

...I was actually the opposite - I had my first 'Plus' sized phone a few years back with the iPhone 8 Plus but over the year I had it, just couldn't really get used to its big size. It was a pain when carrying it in my trouser pockets as the phone would always poke out at the top it was so big!!

I then moved to the iPhone XS and have had this for the past 2 years (skipped the iPhone 11 range as these didn't really offer anything substantial over my XS) - its the best iPhone I have ever owned, great size, awesome screen and great build quality.

Its gonna be tough to beat.....!!

Hello all! Only really post on here for the yearly iphone upgrade! Looking forward to upgrading this year, but keeping an open mind to what to upgrade too.

I have a 11 pro max, and I love it but IT WILL NOT WORK ON WIFI! Its been driving me nuts and I'm using more and more data and you'd think 30gb would be enough for a month, but it appears not recently. I've been doing some online searches and the majority of people complaining about this issue is from those who pre-ordered at the start.

I love the size, and I've always been a get the best top of the line type of gal, but this year, I might buy the slightly lower spec. I don't use most of the fancy camera features that the pro max has and i can't hardly tell the difference between my screen and my friends iphone 11. That and £1200 was a bit layout last year. Not sure I can afford it this year........

Obviously this will change nearer the time of course but these are just my initial thoughts!

My favourite thread, thanks @Jinjin

I too am at a level 1.. nothing too compelling but I will upgrade regardless! Think I'm gonna go for the biggest screen size this year.. 256GB Pro Max, in silver to mix it up a bit (always get a different colour) Some tech reviewers swear by 120Hz but I can't say I've ever noticed it on my iPad Pro.

Can I suggest adding some FAQ re: music magpie, there are typically lots of questions regarding selling to Music Magpie and paying off your Barclays loan early (I don't know the exact details as never used the upgrade programme) 😄

Good shout. I have a section for music magpie voucher codes. Will summarise my approach to selling off and paying up IUP.

Been doing that for the last few years and you will be financially better off for it.

lol here we are again. Waiting on more info on specs before I decide: not fussed about 120Hz or 5G, it'd be significant upgrade to the camera that would get me to upgrade. Hopefully we'll get some more info in the next couple of weeks.

Does anyone expect the upgrade program to change this year and have the option of mailing in the old phone like the US? *I think thats how it works at least.

Think with Covid it may put people off who don't have a local Apple store near them and are uncomfortable travelling in to exchange...

Woohoo! Best thread of the year and an excellent resource.

Wife is in the market for an XR replacement as her battery is definitely now showing its age. She also wants to move back to a white/silver phone, feeling that the red is too bold and limits her case choices.

I'm torn about this year. I thought 5G would be the killer feature like 4G was, which convinced me to move from O2 to EE at iPhone 5 launch, but seeing as I'll be working from home for who knows how long, I have no use for 5G.

Also like Dino, I will soon have paid off my phone thanks to a few regular overpayments - a mint condition 11 Pro Max - and I don't know if I'm keen to get back on the hamster wheel again. Lockdown has helped me and my wife save loads, so I think I would pay for a new device outright/2 payments on my credit card if I were to purchase.

The price of the 11 Pro Max (and other 11 era devices, I presume) have taken a bit of a hit on sites like Music Magpie. Only £680 or so offered for my 256GB unlocked model, which is quite a bit less than last year's XS Max.

Perhaps an Apple Watch Series 6 will help partially scratch the itch!

That is how it works. Having something like that in the UK would be great. Even getting pre-approved for the phone ahead of launch would save a lot of time in-store and would probably eliminate a lot of queues.

Anyway, I'm on the upgrade program so it's a 12 Pro for me!

Awesome. I do enjoy this thread.

I'm on the XS Max which I finished paying off the device plan with O2 a couple of months ago.

I want the 12 Pro Max, I like big phones. However there's nothing wrong with my XS Max. I want 5G but it's not available at home or at work.

I need to see the offerings to see if I upgrade or stick with the XS Max a little longer. If I do upgrade do I go O2 contract or iUP?

I’d be happy if they did but I think it’s more of a risk appetite from the company that finances the loans. High value items like these are ripe for fraud etc so they might have additional conditions in their contract to have personal site of ID etc..

Also at “hype level one” as in not very ! However my track record at resisting isn’t very good. I think there’s only one year (XS) that I’ve not upgraded since 2013. On the flip side I am very happy with my 11 Pro (SG) and I had kind of decided that I’ve done my “Apple Budget” this year on a 12.9” iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard.
I think they’ll have to spring some surprises outside of what’s been consistently rumoured. Like the look of the square edges but once it’s inside a case (always use the Apple ones) are you going to notice much difference with the X/11 design ? 5G, Lidar etc doesn’t interest me at all.
However, another factor ! My wife gets my hand downs and she’s currently in possession of my previous X - the battery health is just above 80%, so will need a new battery shortly. She’d quite happily keep it another year but if I was to upgrade she would get my 11 Pro - she bungs me a few quid and we’d recycle the X....
So, in short, I’m still interested in an upgrade (12 Pro 6.1) 😂

Hi all
I’m new here but wanted to be part of the fun this year.
I upgrade once every 4 or 5 years so I’m currently using my 6S which I’ve had since launch in 2015. I’ve been saving over the last year or two and finally ready to upgrade and will go for 12 Pro.

I never liked huge phones so I’m slightly worried it’ll be too big for me, but I get used to things quickly so sure it won’t be an issue.

My 6S currently has a battery of 76%, a cracked screen from 2018 that I never fixed, scratches on the back, a silent mode switch that doesn’t work and a screen that doesn’t work in the bottom left corner. So probably a level 10 on the hype train.

Can’t wait!

Well for me to buy the 12 pro max it needs to have 120hz. I bought the note 20 ultra due to all the rumours saying it’s not coming....it ideally needs to have at least 3x optical zoom as well.

if the camera improvements are that great with those things i will buy it for sure. I love my note ultra though for certain things so will keep both.
