Add me to the "Complete Farce" camp. It's been a few years since I last ordered a phone on pre-order day but today has taken the proverbial.
Like everyone else I did the pre-pre-order last night, but upon opening the app at lunchtime that failed and I had to place a new order.
The app then kept crashing but ultimately let me make and authorise a payment on my debit card.
Later that day I received a text from my bank's fraud team asking if I'd made another payment and saw a second order confirmation for a duplicate order. Knowing I didn't have the money in that account I replied no (thinking it'd just cancel the second payment and I'd cancel the order with Apple) but to my dismay I found that it had cancelled my first order too. Upon trying to re-pay it said the card was declined.
A quick call to the bank said that VISA had flagged fraud and that my card had been exposed and was now blocked and that I had to request a new card.
I then tried to update the payment method to my credit card and Apple's site wouldn't connect to the bank's authorisation portal which upon closing the tab prompted another text from the fraud team. After saying it was me and a call to establish that the car wasn't blocked, I decided to forfeit my original order and place a fresh once which at time of posting appears to have got through.
Delivery date has slipped to 3-9th Oct, but truth be told I've run my iPhone 7 since launch so I can last another few weeks.
More annoyed that I've now got to wait for a new bank card and have to update all my payment methods
