Did you do an auction on eBay or just put a price out there?

Set it as a Buy it Now/Best offer etc...

Rarely do I use the auctions for items of this value

Never had any issues selling and they tend to move within a few days

I do some due diligence to see what similar devices have sold for recently on eBay and then stick a price up that's in those ballpark figures etc

Sold my 256GB 15PM for £900 on eBay last week (it was only a few months old + a few decent cases (Otterbox/UAG etc) - they're still well sought after
Damn that's a good price. For the extra it might be worth dusting off my old EvilBay account.

I’m going to be in San Francisco this year when pre orders will likely open! Will I need to use a VPN to access the UK store or should it just work as normal due to my UK Apple ID? 🤔

You can access the UK site as normal from the states, won't be an issue. I ordered the US model last year in the UK for pickup while i was in Hawai'i without an issue.

Hi everyone, getting ready for another years buildup, got to keep the streak going 😃. I’m not going to have the resale conundrum this year, my wife still has my old 11 Pro Max, which is getting a bit long in the tooth, so she’ll have my 15PM this year.

But for what its worth, I think the route of using the recycling/resale companies peaked a couple of years ago, when you could still lock in a price early, roll it over for a few weeks and they’d offer some sort of code to boost the price too. Those days and their best offers seem to have gone though. Last year with the 14 was particularly bad for the value lost during the year, poor exchange rates with the US at the start of that year pushed the 14’s price up for us, then as they improved, the 15 came in at a lower price, pushing down used 14 prices further.

I used to use eBay to sell lots of old Apple products and tech, but I think that eventually triggered something with my account that they cottoned on to me only ever selling during their £1 fee events and similar (for items selling for well over £500), that they stopped sending them (I can see they still happen, but none of the links work for me ☹️), so not wanting to lose ~£75 in fees to them I switched to using Facebook Marketplace, (if you still get the eBay discounts it’s definitely worth using that option with a buy it now price. As others have said, check recent sales, bundle with a case or old plug or something to set yours above a bit, and you should have no trouble).

My experience with Marketplace is you will certainly get spammed with LOADS of messages (usually from random accounts based in Eastern Europe or people wanting to low ball you, trying to tell you what your phone’s worth) but eventually a genuine buyer will come along. I only ever offer them for collection so I can meet the buyer, show them the phone etc, I’d never post. Guess it reduces the potential pool of buyers, but also the changes of issues later on.

That’s my experience anyway.

oh, and on the topic of exchange rates. The pound to dollar rate is really good for us in the UK at the moment, so I’m hoping that might get reflected in the prices for the 16s this year 🤷🏻‍♂️🤞. Guess it depends if they set the prices a while back/think we’ll just pay more anyway.

Don't rule out eBay; they never do £1 listings any more; but they do the 80% off selling fees listings and they happen very regularly

I've had zero issues over the years using this and have sold all sorts from iPhones/Android phones to iPads, Macbooks, Mac Minis and some expensive hifi separates etc

Their 'new' managed payments is so much better too and leagues ahead of PayPal

impressive really

I've had two offers of 680 and 700 already. will hopefully get closer to asking price.
Well, I asked for £800 for my 512 gb 15 pro max and got that price. Maybe I could have got more but the £800 was £50 more than I was offered from Ur which was the highest price I could find.

It's annoying selling which is why I may just do the iPhone upgrade programme this year. But I dunno if you get approved before pre order day or not as I don't want to need to order from elsewhere just incase I don't get approved. I certainly should but never know

I think you get approved before you order and then when orders go live you just check out. Just like getting approved for Barclays finance. I could be wrong though.

I thought so too but was looking around at last years info and it look like the pre-approval is just for Barclays finance.

Am pretty much decided on joining the upgrade programme this year. Have bought outright for several years and traded in old model via 3rd party places like Envirofone but finding the timing of getting the trade in aligned and the self imposed stress of finding the best price is becoming a bit of a ball-ache frankly. I won't send in early as some do as don't have a back up phone to use in the interim and don't want to go down that route. Reluctant to resort to eBay as heard some horror stories there in recent years of buyers saying they never received then getting a refund and seller being down the phone and the money. Also am still on 14PM and reckon I want to upgrade this year AND next year so seems the right time to make the move. The theoretically the only stress is choosing the colour!

So, with the upgrade programme you can keep your current phone until you get your new one? Do you have to go in store to do the swop?

Think I’ll can keep it for 24 months you don’t need to upgrade after a year
In that case you might be better with monthly payments option of 0% over 24 months instead of paying the premium cost of the upgrade programme if you plan to keep for 24 months. Then you can get pre-approved in advance of orders opening. You can still trade in your phone when you decide to upgrade.

Yep, you have to go in store and every time you upgrade they basically re-check your credit rating etc…

we've been discussing IUP vs 24m elsewhere and my conclusion was that it was still financially better to sell privately and pay off rather than just hand back to apple.

the lower trade in values do make it interesting though
