Apple had plenty of time to get this sorted. There’s no reason this couldn’t have been done through stores or via mail and online.

This is categorically untrue. The lockdown was enforced literally a few days ago with it being presented to the parliament on Wednesday. So no, they didn’t have “plenty” of time. A change in operation at such a huge scale is not a piece of cake.

There must be a reason why they force people to go into a store as not being able to buy online just by clicking a couple of buttons is a huge barrier to selling an item and a company like Apple is very well aware of that.

You can choose not to upgrade and yes the reasons are obvious. I’m on the same boat but blaming Apple is not the way to go about it IMHO.

I agree. Apple are not going to invest in re-coding/redeveloping the uk apple site for one process for one country for one month. In less than 4 weeks time everything may be back to normal and the Apple stores will be open to process IUP transactions and run credit checks.

Easy transaction for me.

my pre approval order went through super quick and I designated a local pick up point to collect. Called apple and got refund on AppleCare. Went straight back to the store and purchase outright another product Max and got the AppleCare refunded on my other 11. 0% credit card to handle that one. Will clear off the Barclays loan in 10 days once the 2 x £87 has come off it. Roll on next Friday 😊😊

Apple Stores have been operating on a reservation-only basis for months, not just this week. You cant just walk up and that's not a recent change. They KNEW IUP was going to happen and they did not prepare for it.

There's no "re-coding" for anything... the site operates on a geographic basis for reservations. If the other stores are closed, they don't show as available for booking. It's a simple thing. I can book a specialist or a Genius appointment right now at any one of three local locations for any day I want.

They chose not to do it. Not only that, but they chose not to tell anyone they weren't going to be making IUP available.

You can apply for the exact same Barclays finance online. You can trade in your phone in the same transaction. It's the exact same as going into the store and participating in the IUP except they don't try to engage you in conversation about what your favourite feature of the Apple Watch is.

So do we all think beginning of December we will be able to choose a date/time for IUP as per normal? (Whatever normal might be nowadays!)

Anyone been in to cancel iUP>

Not worth it now. I spoke to apple, you can't go in till they open on the 3rd Dec. By that time, the IUP only has £340 left on it, (already cancelled the applecare.)

They will only pay off the remaining barclays with the phone even though its worth more, so mine is going to rebuy on Monday for £581.50. £340 to barclays and the remainder back in my pocket.
