Seeing so many American orders being dispatched from China with a delivery date of the 21st May makes me optimistic that the 21st is indeed the official launch day and that we are looking at deliveries starting a week tomorrow.

The difference here is that tracking only starts after they arrive in the UK and are dispatched from Hinckley, in other words a week from now.

Interesting delivery situation with some AirTags that I ordered which may bode well for an early delivery of our iPads:

On the 24th April, I ordered a pack of 4 personalised AirTags and was given a delivery date of the 26th May.

Today, out of the blue, my order status changed from processing, to preparing to ship, to shipped in quick succession, and I’ve now been told that DPD will deliver tomorrow, the 14th. 12 days early! I even got to choose a one hour time slot free of charge. DPD are simply the best!

iPad next week? Ever the optimist!

I've never had dates drag on.... every "launch" pre-order I've done with Apple arrives on-time or early. They seem to over-egg their delivery times and exceed that expectation.
I had this when pre-ordering an MBA a couple of years ago. Was quoted a couple of weeks after launch, then out of the blue, the status updated 12 hours before launch and the MBA arrived on launch day.

There was one glorious iPhone launch, where I got mine a day early, but I don't think that ever happened again!

I’m 99% confident that if your original delivery date was 21-27 May, your iPad will arrive next Friday.

Could always try FB marketplace or Gumtree too. Sold my first gen pencil on there for £45 so I'm sure deals to be had if people are getting rid of them.

I'm keeping my eye out but warranty concerns me. The pencil would be covered via my AC+, but not sure that works for pre-owned items.

Is it just me but has the order delivery dates improved when pre ordering? Looks to me like you won’t be having to wait as previous dates were to go by, if you order now.

Not really sure about that. If I were to order the same model that I ordered within 5 minutes of orders going live last month, I’d have to wait until between 15th - 29th June, a minimum of a calendar month.

Presumably, once the initial demand (for what are £1000+ items) dies down, they probably only shift in quite small quantities. By July/August you’ll be able to walk into a store and buy one. Apple must have to quite carefully judge those initial numbers, particularly when there is a chip shortage. It wouldn’t surprise me if the long lead time from pre-order helps them get this right.
