Actually thats $24,531 a year. Your math says there are exactly 4 weeks in a month. 471.75*52 (wks in a year) is correct.

Sure. They work 52 weeks a year. No holiday, no bank holiday, nothing.

UK law guarantees a minimum of 4 weeks holiday paid at your normal rate (I believe the previous 12 weeks are used as a guide, so it even takes into account if you typically do overtime).

how do you know that.

I doute they make that much. It is a retail position and a lower level one at that so I would not expect a to stealer of pay. 30k if you are lucky.

I'm basing my figure on an Apple Insider article from some time ago coupled with some experiences a pair of my friends had applying to locations in New York and San Francisco.

I can't be 100% certain, but it seemed to me that geniuses made between $25 an $50 k per year based on the store's location.

Man, I would love to be a Mac Genius just to be an employee for Apple, but I currently make just over $50K as a Mac tech for a public school and I only have to work 204 days there. It's sad I would take a pay cut to work for a hugely profitable company such as Apple, instead of a K12 school with budget problems.

Edit: Oops - sorry for the thread revival

Man let me tell you I would LOVE to have your job. Heck I would do it for thousands less to boot!

I am looking for a tech job but don't want to deal with PC's. The reality is though that 95% of all tech jobs are PC. Education is apple's market but the number of available jobs is small.

But seriously though you don't know how good you have it!! You get to work on mac every day :)

I know... I should be thrilled with my job...we are 99+% Mac (there are 4 Windows machines in the district that I can think of right now), and every summer I get to unbox at least 30 new Macs. That and the town I live in has such a low cost of living that my salary is more than generous (median house price is about $70,000 or so). It's a Mac lover's dream - but just facing those odd problems occasionally that you just can't seem to figure out makes me want to tell them to take the job and shove it now and then. Grass, greener, etc etc.
I just need to keep reminding my self that I only work 204 days of the year, and at 8 hour days that comes to over $30 an hour. Half a week off for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks off at Christmas, snow days, Easter break... sorry for getting off subject, just trying to convince myself to keep at it.

This thread had to be resurrected,

I'm attending a recruitment seminar tomorrow to get some more information on the job - obviously have wanted to work for Apple for some time - albeit in a retail capacity.

Trying to do some research on what to expect, so I'm prepared etc...

POINT. If you're working out an average salary in the UK, and you're quoted per hour,

Hourly Rate * Weekly Hours = A * 52 (weeks) = B (Annual, less tax code..)

/ 12 for avg. monthly rate, less tax.

Works better than, Hour * Week * 4 * 12.

Wish me luck!!

Later this year, when the Equality Act 2010 kicks in, they won't be able to put clauses in the contracts preventing people from revealing their salary anymore. So you should be able to find out soon.

When I worked for Apple as a Genius I made $32,300 in the North East, not in a major city. It's low pay for the amount of work. Most of the people there are so brainwashed and think they're doing the Lord's work so they don't even care they're overworked. I got 10 days paid vacation a year, horrible but almost free health insurance ($700 deductible) and dental for about $8 a month. I never signed a contract saying I can't talk about salary.

You are the store whack-a-moles for all the angry customers the retail folks don't have to play with. Especially during the first few months of iPhone introductions.

So basically underpaid for the crap you have to deal with.

genius salary

I went for an interview to work on the shop floor, mac specialist I believe they call it :D, and they get around £10 a hour.

So I believe between £30-40k a year

£10 per hr equats to approx £20k per year...and no way £30-£40k...even after overtime.

Full time hours approx 40hrs per week
£10 per hr.

£10 X 40hrs = £400 per week

£400 X 52 weeks £20,800. Which is an approx.

i would love to know what a basic retail employee could earn.

reason id love to know is whether the money would cover the cost of me paying for the ferry across to southampton.

does anyone know if its a minimum wage job?

i have no retail experience, but im a fast learner and love my macs, so think i could do the job

i cant believe the lack of info out there on the internet, its crazy and a shame because i dont want to miss out on a job opportunity if there is one

I live and work in the Los Angeles area. Cost of living is stupid high and I make $58k/yr. I get 2 weeks vacation, 1 week pto, 1 week sick leave and then I get most holidays off. But I work 9-10 hours a day and have to walk roughly 2 miles a day due to the size of the facility. We're also 99.99% windows/linux. The few Macs we have are in IT (funny that of the guys that support windows half run Macs) and the Marketing dept. They just ordered me a 17 inch Macbook Pro (anti-glare, 2.66GHz i7, 8GB RAM, 500GB 7.2k HD) so that is cool. Its a great place but I would kill to have a low cost of living, make what I make and work 204 days a year.

I went for a job interview at the kingston UK store about 3 or 4 years ago (it hadnt actually opened then)...... iirc the pay was about £7.50-£8 an hour if you were part time, about £16K full time. On that basis I would have thought a genius would make about £22K to £25K, so I'd hope with inflation they'd earn about £27-£30K nowadays.

I didnt get the job in the end, and i was quite glad about that tbh as the first exercise was to as a group 'sell a bowl of fruit to the interviewer'. It was that moment it dawned on me im not the type run down the line of baying fans whooping and hi-fiving whenever there's a new apple product out.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but are there any specialist technical positions at Apple Stores, i.e. those that just stay in the back room repairing kit and are not customer-facing, or do the Geniuses do that?
