With all the rumours about the Apple Watch, not much has been spoken about the price point for those of us here in the UK. Recently Apple raised App prices for those of us in Europe, i wonder if this will also effect the price of Apple hardware including the :apple: Watch? obviously this is just speculation but all opinions are welcome :D

I personally intend to purchase the :apple: Watch 42mm with a stainless steel link bracelet. What are peoples opinions on price points for the :apple: Watch? i'm hoping that the :apple: Watch does not go higher than £1000 except for the gold version i think that may very well be over £1000. but what do you think?

You would pay upto £1k for a digital watch?

I would pay up to £1k for the Steel Watch with a sport band and the Steel Link Bracelet.

Well I hope they are much cheaper than that.

I can't see the ss costing more than the top of the range iphone

The moto 360 is actually a very good device, and that is £200, apple can't go too crazy with its pricing . I'm glad the moto 360 was launched and set a high standard.

Expect some comments on your statement from others :p

Seriously, yes, the Moto 360 is now at a very good price, and as I have said, I think it's dam good for a v1.0 product.
Yes it's not perfect.
We would all like the screen to be full circle
The strap should attach to the body in a nicer way, higher up so it all blends in better.
And of course it's early days for the OS.

People will love the Apple watch, and many people love the 360. There is room for both to do well.

I really hope they stick with the 360 and do their best, year on year to address the current less than perfect points.

There is without question a large market out there for a round, more watch looking watch, as well as Apples more wrist computer style of product.
Both have their place and their customers.

Have to say I agree with this, I'm going to be getting the Apple Watch because im an Apple user and invested in their ecosystem, with other Apple products. But I do agree that the the Moro 360 could do just as well as the Apple Watch. I'm looking forward to the Apple Watch simply because it's a new product that I've never used before, and I'm sure it will be great especially if there is an App system. It's what makes the iPhone and the iPad great, and I'm sure some great things can be done with Apps for the Apple Watch.

Well said. And from the competition, android and apple users will benefit from better products. Question will be, is this just a fad....?

Re mac penetration

Must admit, Mac "computers" penetration from my perspective for the people I work with and friends and family has been a giant ZERO for the past decade or more.

As I say, I know 1 person with an iMac and that's that.

The only Apple products I've known anyone with, are a few iPads and a few iPhones. The VAST majority is Android.

I guess this varies for everyone though, perhaps if I worked "in the City" with corporate people, my experiences would be different?

Just to say, my experience in the UK is very different. 10 years ago I was the only person I knew with a Mac at home (and all PC's at work). Now over half of our workforce (40 in our company) have a Mac, iPhone, or both. We have now started using some macs at work because all the directors have changed to macs at home, and so many of the staff are comfortable working on them.

I may have been a factor in this as a Mac and iPhone evangelist, but I don't think it's that unusual.

And for clarity, my business is a Veterinary Hospital, and very definitely not corporate.

Would you still all run Mac's if Microsoft were not so nice and open that they allowed windows to run on a Mac?

If Mac's only run Mac Software would that have affected your home and company choices?

I'd like to point out I'm not "on a budget" here.

Just because I'm unwilling to pay £20,000 for a 3D plastic printer, does not mean I'm on a budget, it means I can't justify paying £20,000 just for toy to play with that I have zero REAL use for :)

It's not the cost of the Apple watch that's the issue for me, it's what it does, or more importantly, what it does not do.

Other than a 5 minute toy, I have no use for what it can do.

Allow me to go out, and leave a phone at home, and just wear a watch, NOW we are talking about something I could have a genuine use for.

But then, we are all different.

If you like what something does, and you can justify the price, then buy it, and be happy.

I never worked out why people bought colour dot matrix printers. they were HORRID.
but people bought them.. God knows why!

Here's your problem, your expecting the smartwatch to replace your phone. Thats just a terrible idea and Apple knows this thats why they make the device function with something you Carry with you everywhere. I personally always have my phone on me it serves its purpose for multiple functions, on the go web browsing, youtube watching, whatsapping, phone calls and playing games like Walking dead & Wolf among us. I love it for what it does.

A Smart watch is just an addition to this for example when you receive notifications whilst walking its not very good to pull out your phone whilst on the move but a glance at your wrist can save you alot of trouble.

If like me you go to the gym, the ability to pick a song from your wrist rather than pulling the phone out when its zipped up in track suit bottoms is really cool and at the same time its monitoring your health.

I'm waiting on price but i think people who spends hundreds on designer clothes are more foolish than a person who spends less on a watch that has all these features. Clothes dont do nothing but have the purpose of being worn which any clothes can do. A regular watch cant do what a smart watch can do. See the difference?

Re macs

The guy who are quoting assumes that everyone bothers with parallels and windows on their Macs.

Yes that was all I could think he meant by that.

part of the reason for starting to use macs is because of some Mac only software called osirix, which is excellent.

But windows wouldn't be allowed anywhere near them!

Excellent.
I am really pleased to hear that.

Nothing makes me sadder to hear some Mac Fan go on and on and on about how amazing Mac's are, How amazing Apple is, how they are the best computers on the planet.

etc etc etc.

Then you find out they are running Windows on the Mac to get things done.

That's like going to church, praising god, then going out the back after the service and totally doing the opposite of all you have said you believed in, in church.

Well done, and I respect you for sticking with what you like.
Good on you for that.

Pricing

I think we are going to be in for a shock regarding pricing yes we know the entry option but realistically how many want the sport and how many want the watch i.e. stainless steel version, personally i want the stainless steel version.

Apple have already said that this is not just a watch but they also see it as a fashion accessory which is why it has been paraded at a few fashion shows. So pricing will be structured accordingly.

I can see the watch north of £500 easily and it won't be possible to put steel bands onto sport watches (and to be honest why would it it would look bloody awful) but equally there has been no effort to produce a matching metal band for the sport edition.

£500 will be too high for the vast majority of consumers I think. It could well be like iPad pricing though, £399 for the SS Watch.

Sport: £269
SS: £399

That helps to differentiate it slightly, but remember, if Apple charge too much, then people frankly won't purchase it. Both models do exactly the same, and it's not like SS is very expensive as a material.

Re pricng

At what price point do tradiotonal watches get sapphire crystal as opposed to some form of glass?

I'm not into watches so genuinely have no clue, however I absolutely cannot see apple being the cheapest watch with sapphire, so it might give us a clue as to starting price for the ss Apple watch.

Not a chance, Apple will sell enough watches and if its mostly sport at 50% margin then so be it

There is a reason there are no metal bands for the sport and thats price.

Belly up for a shock, £500 and more for say the milanese loop which is the one i want

What are you on about? You know, it is actually possible to use both OSes without devoting your life to one of them and sticking with one as if it were a religion.

I much prefer OS X. Much prefer OS X. But I have two pieces of software I need to use about twice a month which are Windows only. I'm not so benighted as to think I must restrict myself to using one operating system out of spite. I use what I need to get things done, not artificially limiting myself out of blind loyalty.

I still prefer Macs to any Windows PC out there, but I'm not going to pretend they don't have their uses.

Oh yes, This was just aimed at a sad group of Apple users who think Apple is some kind of God.
They go on and on about Samsung should die without understanding what that would mean to Apple now and in the past, and they go on and on about Windows and PC's are junk and should die, whilst then firing up windows on the Mac's to get things done.

Just a silly group of people. I know Apple is great for some things, and horrid and not worth looking at for other things.

I have had a Mac in the past and found it too restrictive, as always needing me to alter what I want to do to fit in with it, as opposed to being open so I can do what I want and it tends to fit around that.

The most annoying thing I find about a Mac is you browse the internet and find something you like, click here to download, but of course, almost all of that is not for Macs.
So why pick the less popular format?

It's funny as, to me picking a Mac as a computer, would be like say picking a Windows phone for a phone.

The PC has vastly more programs that often run better, so you get that. Why limit your choice?
The iPhone iOS has vastly more programs and often run better, so you get that, why limit your choice?

I'm not Brand biased, and will happily switch to any make/model/brand at any time, which is why I don't get this whole Can only buy Apple, Apple is the best mentality.

Sure, get what YOU like but best is just a personal opinion.

The standard Apple Watch comes with a White Sport Band. Unlikely they'll get away with £500 for that and sell them in any significance.

A metal band is also not recommended to wear whilst playing sports ;)
