Yeah the 14 Pro stainless steel gets fingerprints, but they don't have this horrible oily, greasy look like they do on titanium.

If you haven't seen it yet, go to your Apple store and have a look. Those test units have only been handled for a few hours and they're filthy. Like, if I had a titanium iPhone, I'd want to be cleaning it twice a day to prevent that ugly look.
Putting it in a complete cover case will solve the fingerprint problem. Problem is solved. Do you always use a case when using your phone? If you do, then there should be no issue. If you do not, then decide if you want to keep the 14 pro to avoid greasy look fingerprint or get the 15 pro with the greasy look problem - cleaning it a twice a day is no big deal. Just take a polishing cloth and wipe it. It is not hard.

I don't like cases. Cases always feel worse than premium metals and textures like titanium and aluminium and stainless steel.

That's a subjective opinion, personally I would find the cleaning twice a day infuriating.

I still haven’t had any iPhone 15 on my hands, probably this afternoon will, but I think lighter is always better.

Until then, based on what I’m reading, I predict that this iPhone 15 Pro is going to have a good amount of “-gates”. With the color coating, with scratches, with smudges, with the raised edges of the frame/glass… and we’ll see if the A17 Pro has its own set of problems (like overheating) or it’s just an incremental upgrade with not much be to offer.

I’m sorry but despite being lighter and slightly smaller, the 15 Pro isn’t appealing to me. I’d rather get a regular 15.

I totally forgot about the ugly smudges. The fingerprints on the Titanium models were worse than SS. The only Titanium model that didn't show those ugly smudges was Natural Titanium. I actually went to look at blue and black Titanium. The smudges were so bad that I asked an associate for a microfiber cloth to clean the phone. Even after cleaning, I found the black to better than the blue, which is saying something since blue is my fav color. I'm not a fan of light colors but if avoiding fingerprints is extremely important, either get a case or get Natural Titanium. I wasn't planning on getting a case this year either, especially since the Max is already too wide for me.

I really had not thought that weight would be polarizing, but reading these threads, I can see that it clearly is so. Imagine if the entire frame had been Titanium rather than just the band - the phone might be lighter that an iPhone 3G!

I think I'm ok with the weight, because I'm coming from a 12 Pro, and my 15 Pro is within 10g of that, so it's not too easily perceptible to me.

It’s funny, a lot of people complain about the 14 PM being too heavy and hurting their pinky. They’re probably ecstatic at the weight reduction.
I find it amusing that so many people (including MR video hosts) were silent on the weight issue up to now but the moment the 15 appeared they were expressing delight in the real or perceived weight reduction. Afraid and reluctant to say anything negative before. So goes the Apple fandom.

I like the texture of the titanium better. More matte than SS, but more grip than Al. Love the brushed look too. My Natty Ti is less fingerprint-prone than my SS phones, not sure what all the fuss was about; maybe the dark colors are way worse.

Phone feels just as solidly-built as 12-14 series.

The slightly reduced weight and the slightly curved edges are a moderate QoL improvement, but strangely I used to use the sharp edges for grip so I’ve lost a little there on its movement to more of a soap-bar shape.

I don’t use cases because it defeats the purpose of such a high quality build to me.

I actually agree, the buttons feel a little mushier too on the 15 Pro's from couple units I picked up

I think 15 regular and plus are the champs this year.

I do prefer that 15 pro's are way lighter than 14 pro's but can't help but also feel like they feel a little cheaper and less premium, may be a perception thing more than reality but perception is one's reality too.

I said it feels cheap. If you hold the 14 Pro next to the regular 15 and the 15 Pro, I think many people will prefer the heft of the 14 Pro.

Have you gone to the Apple Store and checked the 15 and 15 Pro side by side? Very little difference in texture and weight.

I had the same feeling when I bought my AW S7 Aluminum Midnight. I still prefer the look of my AW S5 SS Space Black. The S7 is objectively better but SS looks better.
I see what you are saying and it's purely subjective.

For me, I like my 14Plus over my 14Pro Max because of the weight differences & battery life.

Didn't need to upgrade to 15 because I have another year left on SOS satellite services on my 14+ & 14PM.

The 15 phones are all better to hold than the 14 due to the change of the shape, and the slightly lighter weight. The 14 feels more dense, which some people will prefer. In terms of "premium," the 15 series feels vastly more premium than the 14 series. I would say the 15 Pro and 14 Pro are a bit of a wash, with he 15 Pro feeling "nicer" as opposed to "more premium."

I agree OP. I was ready to upgrade and even took the day off to get the new iPhone. But i changed my mind when I saw the phones. The titanium is indistinguishable (in look and feel) from the aluminum iphones, which is disappointing. I personally feel that the shiny stainless steel has a premium, almost jewelry-like feel. This is also why I always buy the stainless steel watches. The titanium does not stand out at all and the colors are boring. I’m disappointed this year. I’ll be keeping my deep purple iPhone 14 pro max, which I’m legitimately sad about, as I’m bored of the color. Hopefully next year they’ll figure out how to make the titanium edges glossy. If the edges are going to be fingerprint magnets as they are now, they might as well be glossy, which will make the phone stand out.

I’m not sure why you’re being attacked for expressing your opinion.

I also want to add that I use my phones without a case. So the look and feel of the phone matters.

One of the big surprises for me was how premium the aluminum phones feel this year. Great design on those

It looks, and feels more premium. having owned every version from 3 -15, this is lighter yes but not cheap.

its currently a very premium paperweight for me but premium nonetheless.

initially it was a shock, the weight, but I’ve gotten used to it and love it, paperweight status aside.

I don't agree and feel that the 15PM feels even more comfortable in hand and even more luxurious than the 14PM, nor do I feel that the heft of the 14PM made it any better or worse. This is just my personal opinion.

I agree. it looks cheap compared to stainless steel.

probably cause it does cost Apple less to build in titanium.

Plus they raise the price by $100 on top of it.
Some real facts about titanium (there’s no way it “costs less”:

Using titanium for precision machined parts can be difficult. Titanium has a machining cost factor 30x greater compared to most steel alloys.

Even though titanium is expensive as a raw material, and expensive to machine, it has a lot of great benefits. Titanium has a similar strength compared to stainless steel, and it’s significantly lighter. Titanium is about 50% as dense as stainless steel, and it provides the same amount of strength as stainless steel at 40% of its weight.

Titanium parts are often used in the aerospace industry where weight reduction is a priority. They’re also used for medical parts because titanium is biocompatible.”
