The last time I was this angry about a computer was when I was told that I could not put my latte in the cupholder that comes out of the front of the tower PC in my office.... :(

Damn, you. I just spit my coffee over my keyboard and mouse.

There are worse ways of going out i guess...

Hmmmm... i could actually believe that she bought the 30" ACD and thought it was a complete system like the iMac... but throwing it out the window instead of returning it seems a bit far.... Doesnt apple let you return a system within 30 days for a full refund? (as long as it is not custom build)

You have 14 days (at the U.S. store at least).

Because they refuse to replace it (because nothing is wrong)

And this is where I believe the story falls apart...

i like apple inc but the last model my family got was a real lemon...core duo imac and there were many problems with it but luckily we have applecare

the whole fiasco left a bad taste in my mouth for apple and for the core duo on a mac

i love my dual g4 power mac and ibook and will use them until they become too old to use and after that, i will probably get a pc...but not some cheap dell or hp, but a nice sony or if i could afford it, an alienware :)

not to get too off topic here...

but I'm a little surprised at you jef. One lemon, in your what, 27 years of using apple products and you're giving up on apple? Do you think a PC is guaranteed to be defect-free? Every company has some lemons, even the most reliable (I've heard Honda horror stories, and Honda is consistently rated tops in quality control and build quality).

So you got one bad product... you return it, get one that works, and forget about it in a few weeks. I've had experiences with 3 DOA apple products (my 15" powerbook G4, my bro's 15" imac G4, and my gf's powermac G4). In each case, back went the product for a full refund and we got replacements that functioned beautifully for years (except the PB... i decided I shouldn't have spent the money anyway so just got the refund).

And back on topic, I do think it's possible about the 30"er. Remember BTTM's story about the wife going nuts and destroying a brand new MBP? People are really dumb, and/or have really short tempers.

(she thought that since the iMac looks like the ACDs that there was a computer in the 30incher, especially at the price).

Monitor is gone, and Apple lost a customer for life.

I hope she learned a Lesson!

And the price of teh 30'' Monitor is price well for how big it is!

DO people even read stuff when they spend 2.5K on soemthing? or i'm I different because i do!

three doa products from one company? that is really bad unless you bought dozens of macs and there were only those three

thanks for the concern and i am over venting about the bad mactel imac and i hope most, if not all of the issues, were from that one machine...the apple store near me thinks it's a router issue on my network and they have seen it many times and i hope they are right...cross my fingers ;)

it's just surprising that in those three decades the worst machine i would encounter would be that one mactel imac...and that counts 8 years as a pc and mac tech and professor's aid for an A+ certification class at the local college

but to tell you the truth, while i preferred macs through the 1990s, there have been some really cool PCs i have seen in the last five years, especially from sony and alienware like i have raved about many times here, which i am curious about owning

the latest pc i have is a 1999 compaq presario laptop and while it's very reliable, it's kind of outdated so i have been kind of looking to replace that with a sony or alienware computer

but when i decide to replace my mac, which i don't plan to for a long time (my dual powermac rocks, btw), it would be a G5 powermac and if i had the money, i would love a quad G5 powermac :) :)

Yeah, it's not great luck, but, counting the DOAs and their replacements as separate (which makes sense for these purposes), the numbers are, over the years:
me: 7 macs
my brother: 4 macs
my family: 3 macs
my girlfriend: 2 macs
So not dozens, but that is 16 apple computers. Like I said, not good luck, but it's never taken more than a day to return the DOA for a fully functioning mac, so no biggie IMO.

You're welcome. Don't give up on apple just yet! :)

I dont believe it,
If she was that stupid how would she have been able to turn it on without looking at the instructions, which in turn she would have clearly seen the directions for plugging it into a computer.

I doubt Apple would care, the credit card payment cleared, and that's all that really matters.

if this happened at all, that is

Yeah, there must be a limit. If you buy AC for a new product, and it busts (in a way that is covered by SC), would the AC disappear, be renewed, or go on?
