Why because at the end of the day, the iPad is just a larger iPhone (once again not in a bad way).

How about leaving out the "just"? "Just" implies there is or should be something more. Do you think the iPad should be more than it is? If so, say what else you think it should be, and we can have an intelligent discussion about that. If not, say, "The iPad is a larger iPhone," and nobody gets ruffled. ;)

To the OP, so what is the purpose of this thread?

Do you truly want to know "what do you guys use the iPad for other than browsing/email" (quoting from your first post), or is it just another thread making a statement that "iPad is just a big iPhone" (quoting from your last 200 posts)?

LOL, actually I have a way to link that one. To have those is to support the larger screen size. Larger screen, requires larger requirements.

Wrong, actually. A screen that large can run on a processor far inferior to the A4. The new processor is not a requirement for powering a screen of that size. If the A4 was designed and used in order to allow a bigger screen, it can go down as the world's worst and most inefficient computing project ever. No new processor is required for the bigger screen. Technically Apple could have used a processor a little worse than the iPhone's and still used a bigger screen. But they didn't. Why? Because the iPad wouldn't be as powerful. The new, faster processor allows more powerful apps and a smoother user experience.

Claiming that the new processor, battery and even flash drive capacity exist simply to allow a bigger screen shows that you are getting very desperate. I entertained you, thinking you may be up for real discussion. But if you're going to claim that extra flash drive capacity was used in order to provide a larger screen, then it's clear you either have no intention of any real discussion or you're simply trolling. That claim is probably the most ridiculous thing I've read on this forum. You're clearly clutching at anything now. Bigger flash drive capacity was used so that a larger screen could be used? There's no need for me to argue with you. Your own comments do a good enough job showing you up.

I'm out. Have fun.

Can't think of anything, really. But most of the things, I prefer to do on the larger screen. In fact, I haven't used my Touch once since I got my iPad. I admit I haven't read every single post in this thread closely, but I for one don't mind admitting the iPad isn't anything more than an iPhone/Touch with a bigger screen -- but to me the bigger screen makes all the difference.

Finally, someone who actually understands. I agree that bigger screen makes all the difference, I welcome that wholeheartedly.

Apparently, some people missed this line...

This is not a rant or rave just observations. The more I think of it, it's interesting how our minds work and what drives us to buy the latest and greatest.

In other words, those who enjoyed their touch/iphone, the bigger screen is enough to buy the latest and greatest even it does the same thing as the iphone/itouch.

I wonder how many would buy the iBoard that is being released in 2011 and the iMat in 2013.

I can't wait for the iMat, then I can definitely play Twister. I'm sure there will be an app for that.

just a larger iphone versus "the iPad is a larger iPhone", ok, if you see a difference in the statement.

I don't think I'll bring the topic of what it should have been. I'm sure we have enough of that topics as well. It should've had a camera, front camera, rear camera, should have wings to help you fly. lol. I'm sure we all know that it will all come one day.

Actually, this time you got it backwards. The larger screen makes the device necessarily larger which allows a bigger battery and faster processor. Based on the faster comments it sounds like they took available of that space instead of just upgrading to be able to run the screen.

I don't know you tell me, start at the beginning of this thread, read each post (which was going very well) and when you get to post 21. Tell me what happened to the thread from there.

Actually, this thread went south at post #14, where your true reason for creating it (trolling) was revealed.

First, you haven't answered my questions.

Second, post 21 was a response to post 14, where everything started.

Finally, you could have made the point across much quicker by starting the thread with -
"If the iPad were exactly the way it is but with a 3-1/2 inch screen, would you buy it?"

Actually, that's probably what the next iPhone and iPod touch will be -- well, they'll have OS 4 on it, but once iPad gets OS 4 in the fall, then the iPhone, and especially the iPod touch, would be "an iPad with a 3-1/2 inch screen." And no, I wouldn't buy that, but to many people, the extra portability will be worth the loss of screen real estate.

Two things. I really want an Ipad, but that would mean giving up my computer. If I do this should I get the 3G? or should I just stick with the wifi edition? I am doing an online school, and people say that the internet is a great thing on the ipad, so should I do all of this for an iPad?

LOL, it's a joke.

Nevertheless, I would entertain this healthy debate.

The new, faster processor allows more powerful apps and a smoother user experience.

I'm sorry to say but the idea behind the A4 chip, sorry the "system-on-the-chip" aka SOC was to allow longer battery life with the iPad. They term this cheap to be the most advance due to the fact that it "sips" power.

In other words, the current iPhone were power hungry, hence, the issues and complaints of it's short battery life whereas with the A4 soc the ability to sip power allows the iPad to function at less than 2.5 watts (give or take) in order to pull 10 hours of battery life. This is the entire iPad and which includes the display.

This is the primary reason for the A4 chip. Nevermind the bang for their buck incorporating this chip into the iPad when they acquired PA Semi.

So...the faster processor is faster but that is not the reason for the A4 chip to be used. Otherwise, they could've used any intel base chip but it's all about power consumption, great marketing advantage and overall it's their own.

Oh one last thing, the iPad is powered by 256 ram which accounts to the "snappier" interface, hence, better user experience.

The iPad is not a computer replacement. Although you can come close to doing certain things with it that you would be able to do on your computer.

If you ever had an iTouch or iPhone, imagine larger screen. :p Oh and faster.

What differentiates any computer from any other? Form factor, hardware configuration, and apps. Same things that differentiate the iPad from the iPhone. Any question related to what you can do on one machine and not another boils down to one or more of these three. Seiously, this is one of the worst threads ever since post 14. Saying that what differentiates the iPad from the iPhone is hardware configuration and form factor is just to state the obvious.

Have you read nothing about this device? The iPad's 256MB of RAM is the same as the iPhone 3GS, which has many people upset, as they feel lack of memory is limiting the device, most noticeably when using Safari to browse the web. I'm not convinced this isn't an issue with Safari itself, as people are reporting a better experience using other programs such as Atomic Browser, but all the same, I don't think you can make a case for the memory contributing to a better user experience when it's the same as found in the current iPhone.

I should've made this clearer, the memory accounts for part of the snappier interface along with the faster processor.

:p that's absolutely hilarious!

The funny thing is for the longest time they were trying to go larger capacity smaller and smaller device. iPod -> iPod Nano -> iPod Shuffle....smaller and smaller, amazing how the needs change

I should've made this clearer...given that there is no difference in the amount of memory between the iPhone 3GS and iPad, the memory accounts for none of the "snappier interface".

Op can fill 64 gigs in one 15 minute photo shoot? Rofl, you are kidding me. How many pictures are worthy of actually showing in 15 minutes?

Right now, I use the iPad for textual things—the way someone might've used a Palm Pilot or Newton.

Here's a list of things I do:

  • Read and organize PDFs with Mekentosj's "Papers."
  • Keep track of To-Dos with Cultured Code's "Things."
  • Type up junk with Apple Pages.
  • Web.. but I will admit that Google Chrome on this thing would be marvelous.
  • Email. I really like the e-mail client, and I don't know why.
  • Watch Dave Chappelle. My laptop heats up when I watch flash or anything else on it. My iPad, oddly enough, handles it fine.

Here's a list of things I want to do:

  • Replace my Moleskine for notetaking. —My notes are more sketches than anything else, so I'm thinking of getting a pogo sketch and Autodesk.
  • Start messing with electronic music using my iPad (to control midi interfaces with some sort of midi-to-30pin connector, or something like it). I'd love to have a modular synth rigged up to nothing but an iPad to save and play with settings.
