Despite there already being a "first impressions" thread, it's too riddled with drama and public masturbation to be of any use to any of us non-schizoids.

Oh and stay out of this thread...you know who you are....you already have your very own circle jerk thread. You can play there.

Now then, everyone else, what have you found?

In the iPod, the font is different. The artist and song title, that is. Well, it looks different.

I didn't see the tethering info in the 3.0 . But maybe I didnt pay attention.

Well the black screen during startup is gone and everything seems a little snappier in general ( especially keyboards) but the echoing sounds are still a problem on my 3g

It definitely shuts down quicker also. My phone is only taking half of the time it did before to shut down. However, on start up, although the black screen is gone, I think the Apple logo stays up longer - I think the total boot-up time is unchanged.

I'm starting to think that maybe the 3.1 Update was mainly to load the MMS capability onto our phones, so that they can turn it on when Sept.25 comes. (only a guess)

As mentioned elsewhere, key clicks are much quieter, almost inaudible, for me at least. Doesn't really bother me as I don't use them much, but I can't imagine this was intentional.

*EDIT* Oh man this is annoying. If you do have key clicks on and you send an SMS, if the sending "whoosh" sound plays while you are typing the next message, the key clicks get louder as the whoosh sound plays. Then they go back to being quiet.

Hey how are you??

My issue is the texting seems bad after I 1st texted someone after the upgrade. Its ok now and the SMS opens better.

HEy buddy!! How ya been?

What do you mean the texting seems bad? Was it being laggy? I haven't noticed that in mine... Actually I haven't noticed anything bad in my 3GS so far since updating to 3.1 .
My Gmail was having issues receiving mail while on Wi-Fi, so I guess i'll find out by tomorrow if that has been fixed.

Does anyone know if that annoying distorted sound when you get a text has been fixed?

Use "Glass". No distortion. Tri Tone still sounds distorted. Hmm. I wonder if they mean to lower the gain of Tri Tone and accidently did it to the key click sound instead.

I don't use them either, but when I turn the Keyboard Sound ON, the first click is LOUDER than what it sounds like when typing after that. Has anybody else noticed that?

Can anyone point out at least ONE thing that I can see/do on my iPhone right now that is new in 3.1 ? (I have a 3G, not a 3GS)
Thank you. :)

Heres a few (these are documented - but just answering your question):

  • Genius Mixes (iTunes Store on phone)
  • Genius Recommendations for Apps (App store on phone)
  • Download Ringtones Wirelessly(App store on phone)
  • Redeem iTunes Gift Cards, codes, and certificates in the App Store
  • Display available iTunes account credits in the App Store and iTunes Store
  • Save video from Mail and MMS into Camera Roll
  • Remotely lock iPhone with a passcode via MobileMe
  • Paste phone numbers into the keypad
  • Warn when visiting fraudulent websites in Safari (anti-phishing)

Yeah, see my edited post.

The high pitched ringing? The high pitched ringing noise that happened after the SMS notification sound and upon locking the phone (along with various other times) appears to have been fixed. It's now just dead air sound like it is with the 3G for a few seconds. I made a thread about it but I'm guessing that info should also go here.

When I had 3.0 my tri-tone sms was disoriented. On 3.1 it sounds like it should(thank god I can stop using the horn tone:cool:).

And yeah, I don't think tethering usage was in 3.0 but I have it in 3.1.
