HEy buddy!! How ya been?

What do you mean the texting seems bad? Was it being laggy? I haven't noticed that in mine... Actually I haven't noticed anything bad in my 3GS so far since updating to 3.1 .
My Gmail was having issues receiving mail while on Wi-Fi, so I guess i'll find out by tomorrow if that has been fixed.

I been great. My brothers g/f just got a new Mac a few days ago and I been helping her out.

I don't have the problem anymore. I would type faster then it showed up on the screen. Now the SMS app opens faster and all is good.

The app store on the iphone has a new category on top 25 next to free and paid. "highest grossing"

Hmm. I Am T-Pain is at the top of the list? This can't be an all-time top grossing list. There's no way T-Pain has already beat out Koi Pond, Super Monkey Ball, Bejeweled 2, etc....those games were at the top of the charts for much longer than T-Pain. Must be by the week or something.

My observations:

-The app store application on iphone now loads content when scrolling...Before it loaded content when it stopped scrolling.
-I think the Maps application now draws map faster (tested on wifi) when moving your view around.
-faster shutdown
-High pitch sound gone, replaced by some very mild noise (shhhhh)

iCal subscription calendars now sync to iPhone

I noticed that my subscribed calendars in iCal are now syncing through MobileMe to my iPhone. I haven't seen this documented anywhere, but all my subscribed calendars in iCal are now listed in the iPhone calendar app under "MobileMe".

I first discovered it when my subscribed calendars all had double entries because I had subscribed to them locally on my iPhone. Got rid of the doubles by going to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" in the phone settings and deleting my subbed calendars from the phone.

Subscribed calendars still don't appear in the MobileMe web calendar though :(

Like all the other top lists in the app store it is based on recent activity and not all-time stats. It is a way to provide exposure to the more expensive apps.

I can no longer use VoiceControl while plugged into my Alpine iDA x100 stereo in my vehicle. It goes to the VoiceControl screen, but says "no songs playing" when I give it a command. This is a huge bug to me, I almost solely used VoiceControl while driving.

Can anyone with an Alpine head unit confirm this problem?

Does voice control worth with bluetooth headsets now?

When I don't have it plugged into my head unit, it works perfectly with my SurfaceSound Compact. I just wish I could get it working when plugged in!!

This was an issue in 3.0 too:

Synched iCal calendars will not remove themselves when you choose to not sync them at all in iTunes. I hit the apply button and the top status bar in iTunes only flashes quickly and does nothing. Then I hit sync and it's as if I made no changes at all when I check my iPhone. Yet iTunes still shows/thinks I'm not synching any calendars. If individual calendars are removed, all goes well. Might be an iTunes issue in which case it did it in 8.x as well. Very annoying considering the subscription calendars now sync via mobileme and there are now doubles.

Thanks for the tip though robohunter

Do this: Go into notes or any App that allows you to type/enter text. Type 555-5555. The go to phone and click on keypad, then at the top hold down, let go, and "paste" will appear. Click on "paste" and the number will be ready to dial. :)

Even better: You can now copy numbers from this same box and paste them elsewhere. Also,
You can go into contacts, hold down on a number, and "copy" will appear. Now you can paste this number into a text message to send a number to someone. "What's John's number?" "I'll text it to you." Copy it from contacts, then paste it into the text. You don't have to memorize it.

re

I found that my contacts will not sync from google any more through Exchange/Active Sync. In fact, when I add them from my computer they sync fine and the exchange contact group populates, however when I then delete my exchange account and set it back up, follow through the prompts and delete my local contacts they exchange group is empty.

I'm starting to think that maybe the 3.1 Update was mainly to load the MMS capability onto our phones, so that they can turn it on when Sept.25 comes. (only a guess)

MMS capability was there in 3.0... all that is required to activate is a carrier update...

We used to have "1 hour" and "4 hours" as options for the "passcode lock" time settings. We now only have up to 15 minutes. I see no reason for a change like this.

You do realise that everyone outside the land of the free has had MMS for months now, and we have been running the same 3.0 as you.

Seems to be the only tangible good feature in all of 3.1.

As mentioned elsewhere, key clicks are much quieter, almost inaudible, for me at least. Doesn't really bother me as I don't use them much, but I can't imagine this was intentional.

*EDIT* Oh man this is annoying. If you do have key clicks on and you send an SMS, if the sending "whoosh" sound plays while you are typing the next message, the key clicks get louder as the whoosh sound plays. Then they go back to being quiet.

Man just turn off the clicks if it bugs you. I turned that off the second day I had my phone. I hate those click noises.

New feature for first time activation (or activation after restore): if your SIM is locked 3.1 now prompts for the code.

(In 3.0 a prompt appeared informing that iPhone can only be activated with an unlocked SIM.)

Safari now successfully connects to my company's wireless network guest access.

(In 3.0 Safari tried to connect, but eventually timed-out with an error message about 'server not responding'.)
