I'm starting to think that maybe the 3.1 Update was mainly to load the MMS capability onto our phones, so that they can turn it on when Sept.25 comes. (only a guess)

Matey, iPhones around the world have had this capability since 3.0. As does any iPhone in America with 3.0 It is just ATT that is preventing you from sending them

OpenGL bug fixes.

Launching Peggle no longer gives a weird artifact on the 3GS during the splash screen.

Genius mixes limit

I have 12 genius mixes on my iTunes library and I have all of them syncng to my iPhone, but on my phone only 8 show up at a time. If I sync again the mixes change sometimes but it is still limited to only displaying 8 on my 32GB 3GS.

We used to have "1 hour" and "4 hours" as options for the "passcode lock" time settings. We now only have up to 15 minutes. I see no reason for a change like this.

strange, I've read the same thing in another thread, but my iPhone 3GS with 3.1 still shows 1 hour and 4 hour..don't know why I still have the options.

Who else?

Me too :) iPhone 3GS 3.1 -- options are {immediate, 1min, 5min, 15min, 1h, 4h}.

I found that my contacts will not sync from google any more through Exchange/Active Sync. In fact, when I add them from my computer they sync fine and the exchange contact group populates, however when I then delete my exchange account and set it back up, follow through the prompts and delete my local contacts they exchange group is empty.

I have the same "problem". You can just sync with Google contacts through iTunes once and they'll all be back. I actually like this better because then your contact picture takes up the whole screen when they call.

I guess I'd prefer it worked as an option though.

Passcode lock

i notice the time to re-enter your passcode had been reduced to 15 minutes.

i'm now forever entering my passcode to access the phone.

The differences in passcode lock options are due to whether you are using Microsoft Exchange.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3860

Description: iPhone OS provides the ability to communicate via services provided by a Microsoft Exchange server. An administrator of an Exchange server has the ability to specify a "Maximum inactivity time lock" setting. This requires the user to reenter their passcode after the expiration of the inactivity time in order to use the Exchange services. iPhone OS allows a user to specify a "Require Passcode" setting that may extend up to 4 hours. The "Require Passcode" setting is not affected by the "Maximum inactivity time lock" setting. If the user has "Require Passcode" set to a value higher than the "Maximum inactivity time lock" setting, this would allow a window of time for a person with physical access to use the device, including Exchange services. This update addresses the issue by disabling user choices for "Require Passcode" values greater than the "Maximum inactivity time lock" setting. This issue only affects iPhone OS 2.0 and later, and iPhone OS for iPod touch 2.0 and later.

I noticed that my subscribed calendars in iCal are now syncing through MobileMe to my iPhone. I haven't seen this documented anywhere, but all my subscribed calendars in iCal are now listed in the iPhone calendar app under "MobileMe".

I first discovered it when my subscribed calendars all had double entries because I had subscribed to them locally on my iPhone. Got rid of the doubles by going to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" in the phone settings and deleting my subbed calendars from the phone.

Subscribed calendars still don't appear in the MobileMe web calendar though :(
I came here to report the same thing, which I am certain began after I updated to 3.1.

I've heard that unofficial tethering (i.e. those users who've enabled tethering on a network which doesn't officially support it) is broken in 3.1; but I don't know if that's true of all networks.

Can anyone confirm?

I dont really care about new features where there are so many bugs.

Where are the release notes...what has apple fixed.

I would think developers would have this information...?

Also, has volume been crippled on the 3GS with this update...I wont upgrade if it has been crippled.

Keyboard clicks seem quieter, but ringer volume is unchanged. I haven't received or made a call since last night, so I can't speak for call volume yet.

I prefer the quieter keyboard clicks.

What are you talking about? MMS have been available all the time since the release of 3.0 in the rest of the world. its only you guys up in the states that lays behind :p

Find My iPhone Volume

They fixed the obvious oversite of the Find My iPhone sound volume on the sonar sound.
It used to adhere to what your ringer volume is set to which is useless if you misplaced your phone with ringer low.
It now ignores ringer setting and the sound comes through at the loudest setting.
One of my favorite features.

The iPod app now retains the currently playing song, even after synching.

I had a song paused, synched the iPhone, and when I went back to the iPod app, my song was still listed under the Now Playing button.
My iPod Touch 2G used to behave this way, but not the iPhone 3GS.

App Store

I can't seem to log into the App Store or iTunes Store anymore. Its just the spinning wheel and says, 'Loading..."

I also noticed the iTunes had dots every other letter last night, but today, it does not.

I noticed the option to "Forget this Network" is now gone on the Wi-fi screen. The only way I could get off the guest network here at work was to turn Wi-fi off. Then when I turned it back on I was disconnected again. Not a big deal, but I'm surprised it's gone.

Battery actually seems to be worse but I don't know... Maybe these threads are making me notice things I didn't before

Mine only shows immediate, 1 minute, 5 minutes, or 15 minutes.
