Yeah, it is impossible to receive ideal unit :) Mine without nicks, blemishes and scratches out of the box. Touchpad still not even in 100% but is okay. I noted that gaps of keys are not equal but assume this is normal.

Hah finally found scratch on a back. I give up with 6th MBP.

Maybe some of these will help:

Tim

Packed already for exchange. This was a scratch on a lid. Around 2 mm. It was deeper than blemish or nick. It could be filled under touch. Keyboard was also uneven. Keys were uneven in holes. There was bigger gap on the left. I paid a lot for this so I use this 14 days refund policy to get not damaged unit.

Noticed that I have this issue on my new 16", but only while in use. When the MBP is off / cold then alignment is perfect but boot up and use it for 10mins +, once its all warm the corners of the trackpad raise up!

Mine also has small nick on the bottom side, about that size. Keyboard is perfectly aligned but it does get keys stuck sometimes but I guess that is more or less what happens with butterfly occasionally as it does not seem broken key, it just needs some hitting the key few with more force and perhaps blowing some air, so likely something debris getting under keys even I'm extra careful with it.

Anyway, interesting to hear you experiences and please post update when you get your next. It is interesting to see how "easy" it is to find 100% perfect unit.

Yeah, it does raise up a bit when it warms ups. Mine has been doing that always and it has not gotten worse after one year. I assume it is normal but usually almost impossible to notice especially if the trackpad is evenly recessed. Mine has one corner nearly flush with the chassis and when it warms up a bit, it does get even or a bit above but still keeps low enough to not touch the screen when I close the lid (so the "gasket" around the display provide still enough gap even when warm). Annoying but I did not want to enter vicious never ending exchange lottery, since I was quite happy with the display and that rarely happens to me. :)

Hi,

Received new unit :)

Trackpad does not go above case - that's cool :)

Keyboard looks fine :)

Also found some small imperfections, but will ignore them, because this is my 6th unit :) I do not want to freeze my money and be a part of this lottery :)

Unit is okay :)

Worth a try but did not fix anything. On a side note while resetting the SMC I have found that my MBP, if off, will turn on if I press the Option button lol

So when I spoke to AppleCare about my issue they suggested I get it seen, which is fair enough. I was working abroad at the time and the ambient temperatures in Europe were over 30c. Am now back in the UK where temperatures are 18c ambient. While abroad, my trackpad was recessed and level while the MBP was sleeping but on and performing basic functions the pad corners were raised above the chassis. Here in the UK the touchpad is recessed again when sleeping, corners level with the chassis now as I type this with one safari window, mail and calendar open.

I purchased this thing in June and have not used it very much to be honest. Keyboard is great but the pad has never been as good as my 2017 or 2013 MBP's. Cannot put my finger on it but something is not right about it so yesterday I called up Apple online, where I punched from as this MBP is a BTO, and they agreed to send out a new one and then collect this one. Will see what happens next week.

how's the new one?

Apologies for not updating, very busy here.

Currently have the "problem one" and "replacement" side by side. The replacement has a much better trackpad. Its more responsive and behaves like my older models however the pad corners still raise up when its under load / hot up but not as much as the problem unit. Under load the corners are still recessed.

At this point I am not sure what to do. I am transferring over all my data to the replacement is its a better unit, and so I can send back the "problem one", but there is a voice in my head saying "return and refund, wait for the next release as this one just sucks!".

Following on from the above, while transferring data and settings over, I noticed a few more issues. The replacement MBP's screen has a yellow tint to it, and when I pushed the original and replacement units together in order to closely compare the screens I noticed a hight difference between the units, the replacement being taller than the original. Am done with the 16" at this point, quality is just not there and more over the trackpad expansion thing has me worried about the long term given the 15" MBP this 16" replaced had a swollen battery issue. Spent 3 hours on the phone today being passed between departments and listening to hold music. Apple were shocked to learn that I still had my original unit and indeed wanted to send a 3rd but I simply told them that I have lost faith in the 16". Refund request has been accepted and was offered £100 off my next purchase.

In my MacBook Air M3 13" touchpad is slightly upper in top right corner than the rest corners. MacBook is new.
