Wiki to document universal and native Apple silicon apps as they are released. Currently, IsAppleSiliconReady.com has the most comprehensive database. Another tracking site that's traditionally been used to track app compatibility during major macOS releases has been RoaringApps.

Regarding the performance of Intel based binaries you might want to take a look here. According to first benchmarks the performance impact of Rosetta is surprisingly low - as in Rosetta on the M1 runs almost twice as well as native ARM on Windows SQ2.

Unity 2020.2 beta and 2021.1 alpha are build as Universal x64/ARM apps.

Firefox version 83 and higher support Apple devices with an ARM-based CPU (i.e. Apple Silicon). Firefox 83 supports the current x86 architecture and run on both current Intel-based Apple devices and new Apple Silicon devices by way of Apple's Rosetta 2 emulation software and thus performance speeds may suffer. Later versions of Firefox are expected run natively (i.e. not under emulation).

it seems nobody was intersted in what this mac arm could actually run. apparently not much for now. if you're doing anything productive obviously you're gonna have to wait a few years.
Isn't Rosetta 2 the solution for the next few years? Till all developers jump ship from Intel? from what we've seen, Rosetta 2 is more than capable for productivity work

Really? You don't think developers use Xcode to do something productive. What about Final Cut Pro, or MS Office?
with the exception of apple software then. Office is a given; it's not a cpu intensive task and it'd probably work fine with emulation. I mean yeah productive was not the right word; I'm thinking of a cpu-intensive powerhouse like for video, audio; design...; those things people often buy macs for. I'm not saying you can't be "productive" using just a browser and a text editor (I mean personnaly for those things I'd buy a refurbed air from a few years back but that's just me)

Yea so things like Apple's own Final Cut and Logic should be ready soon if not at launch.

Adobe's rolling out theirs over the next few months with Lightroom being done first, which to me as a photographer is a good little piece of news to hear.

And that's pretty much it. It won't be years, but it will take a few months for most of the apps that people who use Macs for to port over. To see Handbrake being universal is a good thing, I'm also hoping OBS will be stable to use at launch too.

I don't see an announcement anywhere but I got notification from the AppStore that OmniFocus and OmniGraffle are now both Universal Apps. Both updated and still run on my (very old) late 2013 iMac 27" running 10.15.7.

The announcement showed DaVinci Resolve working very well (8K ProRes was mentioned), so my video editor of choice is available.

Davinci Resolve but I’m reading into this quote: “Perhaps the most impressive statistic in terms of sheer computational power (to me) was Apple’s claim that the first M1-powered MacBook Pro will play back full quality 8k ProRes video in DaVinci Resolve with zero dropped frames.”

u-he audio plugins have stated they’re already work8ng on AS versions and they are running “Little Update Oct 27th 2020: It's looking very good. Neither Rosetta complains about running our Intel Plug-Ins on Apple Silicon, nor do we experience issues with our natively compiled plug-ins - which, well, compile just fine (but are not yet integrated in our automated workflow). We'll post news as we go, e.g. once we have beta versions in a few weeks or so.”

Fabfilter already has iOS AU versions of their plugins so they’re in a box seat already

I refuse to use beta software on a main mac. So if I even get one of these Mac's i'd rather wait for a stable release.

(however,, that sill won't stop me getting curious) :)

virtualizing ≠ emulating

Windows x86/x64 will not run in VMware Fusion for Apple Silicon.
Well I read the announcement that way (that they emulate an x86/x64). Because announcing that existing VMWare ARM VMs would run on AppleSilicon would not really be exciting to anyone - unless you are very easily excited :).
Apple already showed ARM linux in Parallels on Apple Silicon at their first presentation.

I really hope Big Sur has a tool or means to identify apps on our current Intel machines that it can work with

If it works faster and without any hickups emulated than the equivalent last gen machine then that'd be impressive. but don't you use plugin in resolve? what about those?
