I actually want:
1. An iPhone that can fold and become an iPad (It's going to happen)
2. An iPad that can become a MacBook (they are trying, but in a really weird way)
3. A Macbook that can become a desktop (more or less already the case)

Maybe it's again the time for apple to present a "three devices that's actually one" revolutionary product? The chips has got so powerful and efficient, this is actually an achievable goal now.

I will buy it at a 3000+ USD price point

I honestly think they could do a fantastic iPad Mac. They’re so caught though on the operating system. When all they need to do is have it switch to Mac OS mode only when a mouse and keyboard are present.

And tbh that could just be in the form factor of foldable iPhone. I don't know what exactly happens in Apple, but for a well established company, the idea of merging products would be killed off by execs from both teams :)

A two-screen device instead of folding glass. Like a Surface Phone but where the internal screens look almost gapless. Then I'm in.

This is said often but directly contradicts Apple's ethos. If anybody is going to cannibalise their product line, they want it to be themselves.

How many displays can you attach to that? I have six attached to my MacPro (the largest is a 55" HDTV and the smallest is a 20" Cinema Display).

This is kind of what I was touching on earlier. You want Apple to merge products. I want to keep existing products because they do what I want/need right now. If Apple decides that a foldable is all they make going forward, I'm out.

Different categories of devices serves a different user base. Average customers don’t really need to attach to more than 1 screen at a time. Heck, even macbook air only supports two 4k screens.

It’s not like they stopped producing legit computers after iPhone came out which was supposed to be web browsing experience. Not even ipod was directly discontinued. I am just saying, with the need for the current user base, and with the current technology, this seems like an interesting innovative new product.

And as I mentioned earlier, if they still continue to offer what I want/need, then we're okay. It's no issue to me if Apple makes a foldable I don't want to buy, but others do as long as I can continue getting what I want.

I just don't think they are going to make a foldable. But others disagree.

Folding iPhone I don’t think meets their quality standards yet.

I saw another comment that made the point. Apple doesn’t make the screen.

And iPad that could do max os with keyboard and mouse just on its own or 1 display would be perfect for me.

I have and iPad Air and a very old MacBook Pro. I can mostly just use iOS but need a mac occasionally.
How old is old?

My MacPro is 2009, I have two Minis that are 2009 and a 2008 and 2006 MacBook Pro.

My work Mac is a 2015 MBP running High Sierra.

I can get along just fine with all that.

I do have a sixth gen iPad on iOS 16 though.

Let’s see how apple can improve the design. Maybe they’ll make an awesome fold. I hope it’s glass but I’m sure theres going to be a premium price.

2011 MacBook Pro.

It works fine for what I use. But I could consolidate to one device if iPad could dock to MacOS.

There are OS patchers that will take you to Catalina. I'm running Catalina on my 2008 MBP and Mojave on both my Mac Minis.

OCLP will get you to Big Sur and Monterey. They're working on Ventura.

If you didn't know any of that already.

I had an idea for an ipad mac:
If it’s connected to a display:
- and if it’s connected to a keyboard, the ipad functions as a trackpad
- and if it’s connected to a track pad, it functions as a keyboard
- and if it’s connected to both, it functions as another screen
- and if it’s connected to neither, it functions as the keyboard and track combo, with macbook/laptop layout.

In all configurations, a part of the screen (mostly top half) could be displaying some touchbar variation.

It’s mind boggling to see iPads to get external display support that requires both a keyboard and a trackpad so the extra display can be interacted. While it was supposed to be a more portable laptop alternative.

I have no interest in having one, I like phones as they are. Plus I never liked using any size tablet which is kind of what a folding phone is like.

I’ve read many different conversations and such with many users who don’t care about a potential “iPhone fold” or straight out think it’s a bad idea.

Meanwhile, I’m here, with an iPhone 14 pro ready to say “my next phone has to be a fold, apple or otherwise”. That said, I’m happy with the apple ecosystem which makes this difficult.

The reason why I want a fold is for the “fun convenience” of having fun tech without needing to have to carry two devices (I’d be ok with an iPad mini size)

Now, OS wise - I have an iPad that I never use because to me it’s still a glorified iOS device. Sure it has improved on multitasking and such, at the end of the day, it can’t replace my MacBook which is what I’d need to justify using it - this is my personal experience, others use it religiously and that’s great for them.

That said, a larger screen can be useful for very specific takes on the go, so having an “iPhone / iPad mini” would be nice, but again, the thought of having to carry two devices is not appealing.

Am I the only one hoping Apple releases a fold?
I expressed a desire for a folding iPhone on this forum over 4 years ago.

I absolutely believe Apple will offer a folding iPhone at some point. The question becomes when at this point.

In the meantime I'd be open to an Android foldable to hold me over but the lack of dust resistance to date has held me back.

I've had my Fold 4 for 9 months and have taken it to beaches in California and Cancun without issues against sand/dust. The early generations were prone to dust damage but I think the Fold 4 and Pixel Fold are less susceptible to dust migrating beneath the display.
