Anyone with 1st gen planning to upgrade to 2nd gen? It seems like the only 'meaningful' change is the Hey Siri, which for me personally not sure if it's worth it. Would love to hear some thoughts from others and why are you upgrading.

I will not be changing. If they had offered different colors (black) AND a textured (rubberized) finishing I would upgrade. I also will not be getting the wireless charging case.

EDIT: I still get enough battery life for my use. I use my airpods at work, one at a time, and have to swap only once per day. If I talk on the phone, then I have to swap twice.

depends on how your current AirPods are for battery life.

Yeah, a million times this. This is currently the worst thing about Bluetooth headphones

They'll last the same as your usual battery - 500 cycles or so. So they're only good for a year and a half, if you use them daily.

So that's sort of a forced upgrade...

OTOH I've never ever had earbuds that lasted me more than a few months. I'll always lose them before that.

Nope thank God only had mine for about 6 Months, and these new ones don't offer anything to make me want to splash out again.

I had my airpods 1st gen since it's initial launch 12/2016 and been using them since. I ordered the Airpods with Wireless charging case. Can't wait for this nice upgrade.

They’re almost as much as the AirPods and don’t offer anywhere near the ease of use.

Samsung stuff is just as expensive as Apple’s these days. If you’re not in the Android ecosystem I’d struggle to recommend anything Samsung, except maybe a washing machine or television.

Apparently you haven’t done research tons of people with iPhones using and prefer galaxy pods ease of use as to opening them and instantly connecting vs going to Bluetooth and selecting all of 15 sec. far as capabilities it’s not even close galaxy pods are hands down better

I don't see a mention of Bluetooth 5.0 on Apple's website. Do they support it?

I’m gonna need a citation on these “tons of people” there buddy.

Going through menus to manually connect them or seamless connectivity as soon as you open the case?

I know what sounds better to me haha.

Not to mention those Galaxy Buds are ugly as hell

Um, AirPods instantly connect to multiple devices without having to go into settings.

I smell a troll!

I’m not updating my AirPods quite yet. Realistically, my first GEN AirPods are still fairly strong with the battery life, but I also charge them regularly, which I think helps extend the lithium ion battery life. Honestly, I’m not too impressed with the refresh that we saw today from Apple, I was hoping for at least water resistance or an additional color at minimum. But I still think greater things are coming with the AirPods not for 2019, but hopefully for 2020 to see what technology is upon us.

A couple months ago, I bought new Airpods to replace my 2+ years old Airpods that had very degraded battery life. I don't really feel the need to get the Airpods 2. Tap-for-Siri, and charging-with-cable every few days is fine with me. Paying for the incremental change doesn't seem worth it to me. I'll re-evaluate when the Airpod 3s are out.

Sigh. I bought them. My battery life on my version 1 AirPods was starting to degrade.

I had these engraved with "only connect" (E.M. Forster).

At least now I have a spare pair. I will say that the AirPods are one of my favorite Apple devices in my 35 years with Apple—along with the Watch and the iPad.

They are identical in appearance to the first ones so no I wont be upgrading. I mean... how will people with old airpods know im better than them with my new airpods 2? Sorry but im out
The engraving, the charging led on the front of the charging case, longer battery life while talking and Hey Siri should be enough.

I think the new chip H1 comes with Bluetooth 5.0 because of the improved talk time?

I hope someone can confirm this speculation that came through my mind.
