First, thanks for a very good and informative thread! I have however got an issue after replacing my SSD.
Battery not charging after SSD upgrade (Macbook Pro 2015 13")
- I used a
"long" NGFF adapter (from Wish) and the Kingston A2000 500GB NVME SSD
- I followed an instruction video like this, basically disconnecting the battery before replacing the SSD,
Problem:
- The laptop is completely dead when the charger is not connected
- When the charger is connected the
battery menu says "Service recommended" and "Not charging", and system profiles says shows cycle count 400, charge is 49%, 0 ampere
- New SSD works fine
What I have tried:
- Double check the battery connection, multiple times, everything looks fine
- Reset SMC multiple times - no difference
- Reset PRAM/NVRAM - no difference
- Reset where you hold the power button for 10 seconds - did start computer with fans at maximum and no battery detected, but after restart no difference
- Switching back to old SSD (and reset SMC i think) - no difference
Ways forward:
- Buy a new batter? Is that likely to work, why did the battery suddenly die in the first place?
(Some people have issues with charging because of the magsafe connector, but that seems unlikely in this case, as if that would be the case then the laptop would work on battery but simply not charge, but in my case it is dead without charger)
Anyone else experienced anything similar? It does not seem like people typically get this kind of problem when replacing the SSD.
