just a quick update using Aliexpress cheap SSD (4-layer) working very well with MacOS Tahoe beta.

I’m curious, what size file were you testing the disk tool with? I was using 5gb, and was getting 3200mb write / 3000mb read. If i switch to 1tb size I get the 4900mb write speeds.

I did the last preorder round which was March 27. They initially indicated it would ship around April 30th, but they sent an update about delays in the manufacture process due to holidays. They got the devices at the end of April, they do a bunch of QC checks and it shipped out mid May. Took about a week to get to me.

It definitely isn’t a fast process, and that might because they are doing smallish manufacturing orders and not stocking items.

So far the drive is working as expected, and I don’t even think about it, which was kind of my goal.

I just got the email from iBoff that they are shipping the order.

Fingers crossed. Between these two vendors, I’ve waited so long.

Came back to this thread to note my Jan 25 2TB upgrade is still fine/fast/worry-free. That makes the M4 mini a pretty spectacular machine.

This has been the price since they came to be. I figure time and competition will make the adjustment.

The Pro has four chips on the storage card. I don't know whether all four need to be populated for it to work but if so, that might account for some of the uplift. That and the risk that one is going to turn out to be a dud so, more reworking before shipping if the current sellers do any QC.
