I’m really hoping for this too. I bought the Bowers and Wilkins P9 signature headphones and it would be a shame to have to use them with the headphone jack instead of the lightning DAC as there were intended.
Great. I love donglesB&W responded that they have no current plans to offer a USB-C Headphone cable. It was suggested that Apple might have an adapter. I ask my local Apple Store salesperson. He said he was unaware of any adapter. Maybe a third party will solve this.

I don’t understand why Apple would switch to USB-C on the iPads and ditch the audio jack. To me it’s either moving it closer to Macbooks (and therefore keeping the audio jack and switching to USB-C) or ditching the audio jack and keeping the Lightening connector to make it water resistant.
I also have to say that I am a bit disappointed by face ID on the iPad. Since there is no such thing as raise to wake iPad it always takes two steps to unlock it now. 1. Press the on button 2. swipe up. With touch ID it was just one touch

Will there be a USB-C to Lightning dongle? I have some Audeze Sine headphones with a "Cipher" cable that is a direct lightning port connection that draws a little power for an inline amp.
Still works on iPhone because it hasn't switched to USB-C but I'm wondering if the Cipher cable will be junk because of the USB-C move or if I'm going to be able to get a dongle for it...
Just thought I’d mention, I found some Lightning to USB-C adapters on Amazon.
Now I’m not normally a fan of purchasing brands I don’t know and trust. But my curiosity level is just far too high, so I ordered them. Should be arriving today so we’ll see if they work ok.
Not sure how you planned on using them, but for certain - they won’t support fast charging, i.e. 18w/30w charger to iPhone 8/8Plus/X/XS/XR. You’ll get ~10w max with the knock off cables.
Wasn't particularly bothered with fast charging, or anything else for that matter, just good old fashioned curiosity.
But as suspected, they do diddly squat, not so much as even charging.

We appreciate you taking one for the team![]()

I see plenty of Lightning (Male) to USB-C (Female) on Amazon but I'm going to need Lightning (Female) to USB-C (Male) to plug these headphones in...
Found this

But every one I've looked at says data sync and transfer and specifically mentions no audio or video.
Ugh. I hope there's something to convert this. iPhone is probably next with USB-C and that will render these headphones useless with the Cipher cable.
Why can't you just tap on the screen to wake the ipad instead?

I just bought a new iPad at the Apple Store and unpacked it at home just to see that it has a dent. Would you go back and ask for an exchange? Since it is quite a trip to the store I am really mad!
That’s what I tried, Lightning female to USB-C male. No dice so far.

So cant we use wired earphones in new iPad Pro since it has USBC connector? How do we listen to something without Bluetooth?

As mentioned above, so far I’ve found nothing which works, so at the moment it’s the Apple adapter for 3.5mm Jack.
If you have Lightning headphones, well, we’re kind of stuck there until someone makes a compatible adapter.
That I didn’t think of actually, the lightning headphones that come with the iPhones are unusable at the moment with the new iPads.
