Yeah my power adapter always asks me to turn on airplane mode and that it is not really made for the iphone. I dont know what is wrong with it.

Are you using an iPod dock? Mine does that when I use that instead of just the cable or the iPhone Dock. I think it's the IR sensor on the iPod dock that causes that.
That's a different issue, but also a bit annoying.

I got my Iphone day 2 of the release. the AC adapter failed 2 days later. Called Apple, and they sent out a replacement with a return shipping label, no fee. Works fine since.

Zandian.

i think its bad docks, when i frist got my phone i put it in the dock snd itunes said "cannot connect to iphone, unknown error" took it outta the dock and pluged it in direct and it worked

It's not a bad dock in my case...I don't use the dock because I have a case on it....well I reported my problem getting apple to replace mine. We were sent just the little part of the adapter....you know the plug part that can separate from the rest of the adapter.....I plugged it into the rest of my adapter and..................IT didn't work....so my guess is the fault is in the big part of the brick adapter.

Incidentally, the Apple Store had told me after not replacing mine...to pull the little part out and that would reset the adapter and it would prly work after that....it didn't.

I returned to the store with a case number and they finally gave me a new one. I am surprised that the part isn't working for so many people. Isn't this the same kind of adapter they have used for years?

Luckily, I have a Griffin powerblock that will be my fallback if this one fails.
My husbands is still working fine.

Exchanged My iPhone Charger

Mine failed within a week after receiving it. It was completely dead and wouldn't charge anything (iPod included). I spent an hour on the phone with Apple support. The person I spoke with didn't know what I was talking about when I called it a "power brick" until I explicitly explained it.

He said I would have to pay for a new one, then send my broken one back...or I could travel (over an hour trip) to my local-ish Apple store. He also said I could exchange it at an AT&T store. I went to an AT&T (corporate store, of course) and they said that they aren't supposed to do exchanges, but luckily did anyway.

Apple's support seems, at a minimum, very uninformed, if not poor.

[Edit] My new adapter (model no. 1205) whines while it's plugged in, any one else experiencing this?

Okay, so I am not rude, but I think you are wrong... I too have had this problem twice in different area codes. Once in Mojave, CA. and a second time in San Jose, CA. There is something wrong with the charger, and apple knows about it already. They had to know about before the release of the iphone. I believe they knew the following:

Charger adapters would fail
Safari quits unexpectedly

Those two things would not seem so big to me if I was a major computer corporation knowing I can bring out new software to fix those issues....

I agree that Apple should look into this, as they fail too easy, but I am simply trying to give an explanation on to what could be happening.:apple:

Ditto

I have the same problem an I am very upset. I returned my first iphone after having the "part not made for iphone" alert (or something like that) everytime the iphone was unplugged form the dock, and now this.
The whole situation reminds me the problems with the early adopter of the Macbook Pro.

Apple needs to stop experimenting with his clients.

The solution?

I read this:

“Removing and replacing the pronged portion of the power adapter can solve the problem of the units losing contact. Sometimes the pronged portion needs to removed and replaced several times for the proper contact to take place.”

And now seems to be working, I will try for a week and report back, please, try this solution with me.

Mine failed too

My power brick failed as well. I called Applecare and they promptly sent me a new one and an envelope to mail back the bad one. Works great now.

Mine failed too, a few days after iDay. I hadn't even thought to have it replaced because I always charge via USB. However, I'm inspired by all of you. I will call Apple and insist that they ship me a new power brick. I'm not driving to the Apple Store due to their faulty equipment!

Otherwise, no complaints.

This Works!

I just tried this and, lo and behold, my formerly dead adapter is working! :):):)

And I just went through a 25 min Applecare call to get mine replaced. (I got some kind of newbie who had to put me on hold for five minutes every step of the way. LOL, i had to call back again because he sent out two adapters--one for free, and the other charging me!)

Yeah, kinda like I mentioned in post 47.

*sigh* You think people would pay attention to a demi-god.:(

power adaptor issues

My power adaptor failed to work at times via the dock, but would always work through a USB computer connection. I tested it carefully, including switching the prong portion in and out and replacing it with another one. It worked briefly and I thought that it was fixed, but then it stopped working again (but only via the dock), even with a new prong piece. It may be the prong connection to the adaptor as was suggested, but it is flakey enough that I recommend getting it replaced if the problem occurs but then seems to go away, as it will likely return. Apple sent a new adapter piece by express mail after I explained that it did not work consistently except through the computer. Everything has been fine since. The iphone is worth this minor hassle.

I ask for forgiveness Demi-God.:D

So far, after the solution proposed above, mine continues to work, we will see on a week.

My USB adapter died this weekend after abour 4 weeks of use. I went to the Apple store and spoke to one of the reps. He took it in back and brought out a new one and said Merry Christmas! Boy was that ever a hassle free exchange. Hope this one works, but that was great service from Apple. It is great to live near an Apple store!:)

Nope, it died last thursday, and this time removing the part did not work.
So I went today, saturday, for a replacement, when I was there, at the genius bar, one guy, a customer, asked what was my problem an I started to explain an telling him that it seems to be a common problem according to what I read in the apple groups and suddenly, a genius guy just cut the conversation and gave me a new block adapter and told me : "that is it, problem solved", I was amazed, it wasn't even my turn yet..... probably they want just to keep it quiet, who knows?.

Maybe they do want to keep it quiet, or I'd like to think that they just want to keep the customers happy!:)

My power adapter also stopped working. Many tries, switching of cable, outlets...
I gave up and used computer to charge.
On a whim, before heading to the apple store, I tried again. It worked!

So good to know that there's no guarentee that it will be dead at the store.

Looks like I'll just be intermmitently frustrated.
