I generally use a band-aid at first, until the bleeding stops, and, if the cut is larger, I'll wear one until the wound starts to heal a little bit. also, if I get a blister on my heal, I'll wear band-aids there to avoid further irritation and/or a bloody mess in my shoe when the thing bursts.

Yes, they do!

I wear a band-aid if it's bled at all. Plus, I use Neosporin. I use to try to suffer, but found it heals much quicker with coverage and the Neosporin.

I use a band-aid if there's blood. Once it stops bleeding it can come off. Most of my cuts are usually on my hands. No idea why. I'll usually leave it on until it comes off (like after it gets wet from washing the hands).

well I do clean it first. Dermabond ("liquid stitches") is basically fancy super glue so I figure what the hell, right? It's never caused any problems for me.

Well, like I said, if it works, don't change it. I for one would be a bit skeptical of using super glue...... :)

Um... how about you find one report where it shows that using super/crazy glue was bad? Everyone I know that has used it had no problems. And for fingers and other highly flexable areas it is a multitude better than a band-aid.

Yea super glue will close that cut right up....i garantee it will never open again. It might hurt applying it but hey at least you won't have to worry about it bleeding everywhere...i think

Chicks dig scars...

Hmmm, now I am tempted to try super glue even more (not that I have any cuts or scapes at the moment). ;) :)

Good point! :D

I only use a bandage when the cut's too big to heal up on its own quickly or I'm tired of going through tissues or sucking on it to make the bleeding stop. Although I kinda like the taste of it...

Sounds like we have a vampire on our hands..... ;) :D :)

Keep it clean, don't touch it, don't pick at the scabs, don't bother with band aids unless it's large enough to warrant gauze. I also never take Tylenol/Advil/OTC medication unless I've got horrendous allergies during pollen week. None of that stuff helps.

I hate band-aids but I'll use them for open cuts on my hand when I'm at work. The atmosphere is very dirty and it doesn't take much to get them infected. Although lately I've been using New Skin liquid bandage and it works great for those little cuts in areas where band-aids wont stay, such as the tips of your fingers. It stings like hell, though. But when I'm not at work I'll just let any wounds heal as is, with maybe just an occasional dab of Neosporin.

In HS for soccer i would use the sweet tactic of rubbing dirt in the newly opened wound as quickly as possible. number 1) blood is no longer visible (can't get taken out to clean it up by the refs) and number 2) bleeding is clogged up kind of haha. number 3) stays off the jersey. blood on jersey = subbing out and getting new jersey

Sorry, but: eeewwwwwwww!!!!
Isn't that just ASKING for infections and parasites and other ickies?
*shudder*

I love Bandaids. I don't know why, but I loooooove them. :) I bandaid anything that warrants it.
My friends got me some pretty awesome PIRATE bandaids. THEY'RE SO NEAT!

I like the fabric, tricot mesh band-aids. They hold the best. I get lots of cuts, and if its bleeding, I'll put one on. When it comes off, it usually stays off.

Aside: Has anyone seen the Japanese video of applying a band-aid to a finger? They slice each end (of the band-aid) lengthwise, and wrap the finger with alternate side pieces of bandaid, forming an "X." Looks like it would really work.

Ooh, sounds intriguing. I'll have to try that next time. :p

What about if you're headed to the beach? Is a band-aid suitable?

always use a band-aid first but take it off after a day or two at the most. Put neosporin on the bandaid and then let the wound "breathe"

I haven't tried it on an actual cut, but I did try it to see how it worked. If you can manage to cut the band-aid with one hand while bleeding while bleeding with the other, you'll be all set! Or just get a significant other to do the cutting....

You planning on getting in the salty ocean water with an open wound? *grimmaces*

I don't see a problem with wearing a band-aid to the beach. I may even try to find a flashy or fun one to wear just for kicks. :D I wouldn't bother wearing one, though, if I plan on getting wet unless it's one of those ultra water-resistant ones.

Methylated spirits on cat scratches hurts like hell for a few seconds, but prevents the constant itch you'll otherwise have till the scratch heals.

Hmm, can you get methylated spirits in the US? I don't remember seeing it in any drug store. A bottle of the purple stuff was a fixture in our house while I was growing up. With five boys and several cats in the household, it was in heavy demand.

Heck no! It's California, not Hawaii, the water ain't warm enough for a cold-blooded critter like me. Just hoping to keep some gritty sand outta the cut.

Hmm, not sure. The first thing I think of in regards to first-aid sprays is Bactine.

And the active ingredients are:
* Benzalkonium chloride 0.13% w/w (First aid antiseptic)
* Lidocaine hydrochloride 2.5% w/w (Pain reliever)

 I usually just use some good ol' fashioned, hydrogen peroxide.

That's an intersting observation. I always thought that cat scratches itched because I'm allergic to cats. Do other people experience this reaction? Do methylated spirits work the same way with other scratches as they start to heal?

No one uses duct-tape?

I do, usually when it is inconvenient to stop what I am doing to attend to myself bleeding.

Just grab a kleenex or toilet paper, some hydrogen peroxide (or alternate), and wrap it up in duct tape.

Problem solved.

With my in-depth experience of cuts!

STERI-STRIPS!

Closes the wound but still lets it air!
Fantastic!

Alternatively, you could just superglue it!
That's what super glue was invented for wasn't it?

I'm a duct tape person if it's bad enough to warrant. I'll leave it on long enough to stop the bleeding, and that's about it.

I've got tons of scars though, so I'm not sure that's the best advice.
