Although satellite radio has some good variety, I don't think it is worth the subscription.

I'd rather choose my own music...

How long does it generally take to go from beta to release? I have been waiting since July for this app, I have kept my sirius subscription even though I haven't used it since July.

I've long been a supporter of this app and will probably buy it if the price is right, but the more I use Pandora the less I see the value of a sirius stream on my iPhone.

I'm starting to see this the same way. If music is about the only thing that streams online, why buy another app when there's already great, free apps out that have the same amount of variety? I think most of us want the sports and talk radio to go, but it sounds like those aren't streamed.

As others have said, some are. For example, this app will be useful for me, since I am a Sirius subscriber only for the Howard Stern show, which is streamed online. If you don't have any interest in them, then it won't be useful for you at all. My recommendation is to go to Sirius' website and go to listen online, and see what is streamed online, so you can know.

Keep in mind, some of the channels (maybe not some, but at least Howard Stern) is not available on the free-trial online listening.

Also, thanks for the update! I cannot WAIT to have this... especially since this week my work blocked the Sirius log-in for online listening, at least this way I can listen on my phone.

All the talk and sports-talk channels you subscribe to except the game channels are available online. MLB Home Plate, NHL Center Ice, Nascar racing channel, NBA talk channel, NFL talk channel, BCS channel, NCAA channel, ESPN radio, SiriusXM Sports with the Mad Dog, The Virus, Howard Stern, Oprah, Martha Stewart, and so on... check the program guide.

Sure there are free alternatives to satellite radio with the iPhone, AOL Radio comes to mind, the stream hundreds of FM and AM stations to your radio. And you can probably get your sports game radio that way. But the great service that the guys from StarPlayr provide is moving Sirius and XM off the web clients for your desktop PC - which SUCK - and making it into something that just works right.

Yeh, and um...Howard Stern is NOT the argument FOR satellite. (Seriously, how does this guy still collect such a large paycheck?)

I understand what you mean about your own music is better. Nobody's playlist is better than mine. But where do you go for new music? I've been using Pandora for years, and I just can't seam to get very much NEW music out of them. And every once in a while, I get tired of shuffling my own songs, and want someone else to DJ.

I've been waiting on this app for a LONG time. And I can only hope and pray that the sound quality is up to par (at least 128k). Anything less and I can hardly listen to it.

If you install our StarPlayr for Windows product, it circumvents most firewalls and proxys.

I am also waiting for this one, but from what I can tell do not hold your breath for this one anytime SOON... I think it will happen, but it has taken almost 7 months to get to the BETA. Im a long time user of the OSX client and it's very NICE I have no doubts that the iPhone client wont match the desktop in every way..

Ive just grow tired of waiting. They even had it announced on Howard Stern (through a caller) saying it was out and I rushed to find it but nothing than I found out they are in BETA, and nothing has been submitted to APPLE yet, which we know will take a month to approve. So we need to be patient its going to be about 2 months I feel..

Though I hope Im wrong!!!

Also no more beta spots, I missed out I even wanted to feature the APP on my site..

Guess Ill wait for the final.

We didn't have anyone announce anything, anywhere. Someone called in and mentioned our products.

Also, 4 new clients have gone out in the past 3 1/2 months.

StarPlayr for Windows Mobile will go on sale within the next week or so.

iPhone is under testing with ~300 users right now.

We have desktop application for Windows and Mac, with more coming soon. The desktop clients are free.

BlackBerry and Android Mobile Platforms are under development as well.

Remember, we all have day jobs, and there are only 4 of us... and we have still managed to get a massive amount of server and client side software into production.

I know you would find me :)

I agree it's a massive undertaking for what you have accomplished. The comment I was referring to was on Nicemac or geekbox im not sure telling people to call into Howard Stern than someone did and than the thread was alerted to say lets wait for a release first.

Anyway Im not bad mouthing you I love the products Ive used this will be great as well, just trying to temper the excitement as were still a ways off.

Good luck and thanks for your efforts.

Also can you tell me how the channel updates are going to be handled? Thats a big concern as if you must resubmit to apple each time the channels could be out of whack for weeks at a time.

No offense, but why would you even bother posting this here?

It's like posting, "I don't like chocolate", in a thread about variety's of chocolate.

What's the point? You may need to step away from the computer and go for a walk.

beta 2 and more news

So as everyone has heard, the Usirius application for the Iphone is no longer a dream and is hopefully becoming a reality shortly. I've heard through the grape vine or as some may call it the dragons mouth haha, that the great guys of starplayr are currently in the process of beta version 2 now. All is well but I guess there were some fixes that needed to be made and needed a little more testing before they submit the app to apple. I'm under the impression as how it was explained to me that once the app is submitted to apple it will more than likely get approved because apple has a lot of pressure on them to have an app like this. When it comes to sirius themselves they will probably be happy to have an app like this. I was also informed that the app should be available on through the app store by February and not later than march. One can only hope that it will be sooner than that.

I'm anticipating this application. It will allow me Sirius in my car without having to pay for the $500 OEM option.

I hope the reception over EDGE is good. At times Pandora is spotty and AOL was weak at best. However, I do not know how much of that was due to the application/s or the network reception.

You do realize that Sirius makes cheap portable radios that can play in your car just as easily as your iPhone would?
