Outstanding Game!

Hope to see some fellow Mac users on soon! My 24" iMac with Nvidia 7600GT is apparently only cool enough to play in TF2 (and any source game) in Windows. Damn Apple drivers…

Here's a good steam group to join http://steamcommunity.com/groups/originalmacgamers

They are supposed to be creating some TF2 servers for us Mac users sometime soon.

Dang it, right after I buy a PS3 Valve starts releasing Mac games. :(

Looking forward to playing L4D again. I got tired of rebooting into Boot Camp to play.

In other words, Grand Central usage for more muscle to these games and better performance. As well as OpenCL usage instead of 100% OpenGL.

Source is already multicore aware. It does not need Grand Central. Grand Central is useful if you aren't already multicore, but Source is.

OpenCL can't replace OpenGL code at all (Despite both beginning with Open, and ending in L, they have totally different uses). However, OpenCL could be used for physics possibly. Wouldn't be a huge acceleration.

Epic win!

Now I just need Left 4 Dead 2, and I'll be set for a LONG while.

for those of you wondering, 10.6.4 does improve performance by a good amount, to the tune of 70% improvement over 10.6.3.

25-35 fps max everything in ep2 mutual friend on 10.6.3
55-75 fps max everything ep2 mutual friend on 10.6.4

CoD4 beginning of act1:the bog which was barely playable at 10fps is now a solid 35fps, night and day pretty much.

so ya, 10.6.4 helps

You do realize OpenCL is mostly for math calculations? Useful for physics in games as well as any other math focused libraries but it's not going to replace OpenGL. It'll still be opengl for all graphic related works. Not to mention not all graphic cards in Apple's computers support OpenCL either.

Where did you get this info?

a birdie whispered into my ear. :)

Did the birdie explain what system it was on? The question is, how generic is the performance gains or what specific drivers have been updated? What about older computers like my '08 MBP with 8600gt, would I benefit from 10.6.4?

8800gt .. so your 8600gt should get a nice boost. Trust me the shader performance has been abysmal in osx land, the crossover guys have been complaining about it for years. There is no where but to go up in performance.

xbench; opengl - 172 score 10.6.3
xbench; opengl - 196 score 10.6.4

Great!

Theres going to be a big influx of players that don't cloak as spy, don't airblast as pyro, don't deploy ubers as medic, and don't detonate stickies as demos.

:p

Once Steam for mac was released, it became the first time since Word Munchers and Oregon Trail, that I have played games on a computer.

I still personally prefer the controls on consoles for some types of games.

However I love all the games that came in that "indy play pack" or whatever it was called.
.
.
Are there any other indy games on steam I should check out besides....
1. Machinarium
2. World of Goo
3. And Yet it Moves
4. Osmos
5. Galcon (Though I like that better on the iphone)
6. Portal (Not an indy game but loved it, especially because it was free. Will be buying the sequel)

Braid is an excellent platformer.
Torchlight is my favorite game right now, its an action-style RPG with a fixed view, made from the guys who did Diablo II.
