I'm stuck on Monterey per my company's dumb upgrade restrictions and am annoyed about it. I really want iMessage editing and a weather app more than anything else.
Is that because of hardened security for their business usage, restricting what users can and can't do, or is it associated with legacy leased software licensing where vendors have't supplied compatibility with Ventura?

Some more MS Windows centric businesses seem to be tardy on updating Macs versus PC also by IT.

Ventura is first operating system made for M1-2 machines only! So this mean nothing short of SSD is need to boot well! This is my feeling on its realease
Why would you say that? Yes some things offered are AS platform only, but majority of things is usable for intel platform.

The requirements clearly show some intel platform Macs is able to run it
  • MacBook (2017 and newer)
  • MacBook Air (2018 and newer)
  • MacBook Pro (2017 and newer)
  • Mac mini (2018 and newer)
  • Mac Studio (2022)
  • iMac (2017 and newer)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (2019 and newer)

I would be interested in disabling stage Manager too. I have no use for it and I suspect that it is the reason battery life sucks on my old 13 Pro Max. It was a 3 day or more phone before the iOS 16 update and after a few days or weeks with it I noticed significant downgrade to the battery life.
Stage Manager doesn’t exist on iOS 16 so I have no clue why you’re saying it killed your battery life on an iPhone 😂

I would reinstall the OS regardless of the version since you can't be 100% sure the previous owner wiped it at all, correctly, or didn't leave malware behind. Since MacOS can be tricked into booting from a modified system (snapshot), the reset to factory defaults isn't the best way. The "Erase Mac" option from within the recovery reinstalls the MacOS freshly downloaded from Apple.

I always see jokers trying to install Ventura on 2010 Macs with 54000 drives! Never under estimate the sea guys especially of threads in most boards including Mac Rumors!

Is this a M1 or M2 versions? Tell you Boses that Ventura is made ONLY for these two systems! Think about it Ventura is updated version of Monterey it seems! It's almost like Snow Leopard to Leopard situation! So just get Universal, or pure silicon versions of software to keep running like nornmal! Also that free version of Onyx running it's Maintenance section once a quarter also will keep a M1-2 machine running clean throughout the year!

I just realized Monterey is more cleaner, sensible and more navaigate-able than Ventura.
The MacBook Air M1 is running Ventura,
and im using Monterey on a MacBook Pro 2012 13" via an external SSDrive-usb3
I should replace the dvd player with that drive!

if this matters

and the fake email we can send others is one thing I really miss in Monterey.

Not having any problems with Ventura on my M2 MBA and M1 Mac Mini.
I'm concerned about what I may lose fi I upgrade to Ventura from Big Sur (using M1 Mini). Book marks, apps etc. Any problems with that?

Ventura is first operating system made for M1-2 machines only! So this mean nothing short of SSD is need to boot well! This is my feeling on its realease1 Where before they tried to shoehorn the OS X old hats on old Macs! I know this because some old Mac Developers Steve had to do mock funeral for classic software makers at Developer conference1 He telling his Developers are now seeing the writing on wall and update their software or DIE! It's starting to feel it's to point back in day right now with m1-2 and developers not updating their software!
I've never used Ventura so I can't comment on how it is vs. Monterey, but this is the most disjointed argument I've read in a while...

I went from Monterey but I see no reason why you should.
My current Big Sur is getting a little glitchy. Preview and Safari. Isn't it important to update our os... eventually? I'm not savvy to these things.

The new System Settings is what I like about it. It’s more inline with iOS.
I prefer the new System Settings to the old one because of the search feature. But, Apple does have to improve it.

- It's very slow on my 2018 computer. Can take 3 seconds just to switch sections.

- Search is inadequate. Where there is a page to the right that scrolls, the particular item that matches the search isn't brought into view. And, in general, the item that matches the search isn't highlighted. So, I often spend time looking for the match.

The approach to search is kind of a copy of other programs I use. But those other programs do a much better job at it.

Since upgrading to 13.0.1 in December Ventura has been rock solid for me through every update up to 13.3. Better than Monterey for sure. I still don’t really get Stage Manager, but at least it’s off by default. 😆

From my experience Ventura has been amazing so far, especially the latest version 13.3 has improved overall performance. However, downgrading to Monterey very soon, since I need some specific software, that is not supported on Ventura. If you don't have anything like that, then I recommend everyone to enjoy the latest OS.

Bought an open box MB M1 Air 16gb, 1 tb preinstalled with Ventura. Should I keep Ventura or downgrade to Monterey?
Which do people prefer so far. Looking for the most stable OS.
I wouldn't expend the added effort to downgrade the OS unless you had a specific need to run it. Plus Apple puts more effort into the security of the most recent OS release. Most hate the "System Settings" app that replaces "System Preferences", but it's not like it's going to change back or like you won't inevitably be using a macOS release wherein that's what you have.

I also think that both Monterey and Ventura are subpar operating systems. Big Sur was much more stable and Mojave all the more. But I'm never going to suggest you downgrade to the former (and I'd REALLY never suggest you downgrade to the latter in 2023, even if an M1 COULD run it).
