So I just started working at best buy and the manager of the best buy mobile department told me in our morning meeting that they announced that verizon would be getting the iphone as of january.

Take from this what you will, I'm sure i'll get a lot of flamers, but just thought Id spread the word

i'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and just say your manager is an idiot

All right I will be honest I have a thread that hints V would have the iphone this month.

One of my submarine colleagues is heavily into the municipalities of his county in the South East as well as being a huge tech junkie.
Because some of the towers used for cell phones are shared there is certain red tape cell phone companies go through so he is informed when towers are accessed.

From what he told me about the on going testing (its all verizon in his area) and mentions of FCC announcements I feel confident we will see V with iphones in the near future CMDA or LTE.

Of course anyone mentioning it will get flamed.

I suspect that an Verizon LTE iPhone is quite possible, since AT&T is also using that as their 4G technology. But I also suspect that until Verizon's LTE is out (sometime in H2 2010 or H1 2011), there will be no iPhone wearing red.

Pretty much this, yea.

I agree that we won't see an iPhone on verizon until AT&T and verizon both release their LTE network. Also, verizon has made a "rule" that all their phones have to have verizon's app store and have to download the other apps store seperatly.

Apple would never ever go for this. So unless verizon bows down to Apple and lets Apple have its way with their phone, the iPhone won't be on verizon.

Verizon's app store is just their way of posturing.

Think of them like the Russians during the cold war.

doesnt apple have a "no none GSM carrier" agreement with ATT for the next 5 or so years?

I could of sworn i read that somewhere...if we are reaching that amount of time, i guess it could be possible...

However, since Verizon isnt GSM, im wondering how this is going to work? they going to design a new iphone?

Well, if they want to move to LTE they're going to have to design a new phone...

Though, no one really knows what the contract actually says. It's all just speculation.

i dont see why they wont, especially after 3 yrs... i messed with a number of verizon smart phones, having windows os on there n whatnot... and they really dont feel like a verizon phone. I have faith in this rumor, but definitely taking it to a microscopic grain of sodium chloride. personally i dont think we'll see a verizon phone til june (if they even get it, im reallly hoping they do)

It has nothing to do with posturing.

Verizon's new app store and new API's framework are created with their JIL alliance partners --- Verizon, Vodafone, China Mobile and Softbank.

You add them up together, they have close to a billion subscribers.

Even if these API's suck big time --- they are still going to matter, just because of their subscriber size.

I am not saying yah or nay on whether Verizon gets iphone, (I think it would make good business sense), but Verizon already has CDMA\Sims comob in their Blackberry World phones.

Verizon may say their app store only, but every business plan is subject to change.

Edit: I have not done a Verizon BB World phone activation at work for a while, but I am not sure, can you even activate a Verizon BB world phone without the Sim card?

Honestly, I see T-mobile getting the iPhone before verizon. Apple already built there phones for the GSM chip and it would appeal to a few more people who have bad service with AT&T. After LTE is fully active and running, then I see the iPhone going to Verizon and maybe sprint after a while...if they are even still around.
