Bug in Maps: FYI only, not related to 1.0.2
This is not related to 1.0.2, but has been there awhile, this post is for the user who uses Maps to do the "workaround" "limited character" contact search in Maps. Maps will not search on company name, nor any other fields.
Bug reported today in Apple Bug Reporter. Here's the text I submitted in Apple's preferred format (bug #5429091):
Summary:
Probably occurred in 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 as well.
iPhone map search feature doesn't use Company field in search.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Mare sure iPhone is on.
2. Add a contact with just Firstname and Lastname, include an address.
i.e. John Smith 1 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203
3. Add a contact with just Company name, include an address.
i.e. Apple Computer 1 Infinite Loop Cupertino, CA 95014
4. Goto Home->Maps
5. Touch the search field.
6. Type in a few characters of the firstname, i.e. "Jo".
7. The contact with just the Firstname and Lastname will show in the list.
6. Type in a few characters of the just Company name contact, i.e. "App"
Expected Results:
1. The Apple Computer contact should appear in the list, but doesn't.
Actual Results:
1. List was blank
Regression:
1. Occurs all the time.
Notes:
Company only contacts should be searchable as well as FirstName LastName contacts. There are countless times when a contact could just be a company name, such as a dog groomer "Pup n Suds" where you don't have a person to contact, just the main number and an address.
A suggestion is to allow typed character searching in Phone->Contacts and Maps and other places where Contacts is searchable. The character searching should take into consideration all fields in the contact, firstname, lastname, notes, phone numbers, company name, etc. This would be very helpful if you forget someone's name but remember another bit of information about that person or company or contact, and could type that bit of information in and Contact search would search everypart of the contact info, not just FirstName LastName.
