If Apple does add iChat, they want to put the ENTIRE iChat on there, not some stripped down mobile version. That means video.
I bet $100 it won't happen with the machine on the market now.

I don't agree with that either. I think most people would be very happy with a text only based version of iChat. I for one would be very happy with this.
the update will coincide with the new iMirror, which attaches via magnets to the back of your iphone, enabling video conferencing. Trust me. The guy standing outside the ATT store seemed so confident, it must be true. You guys just wait!
LMAO, this iMirror is going to be awesome! I'm going to have to be one of the first to get that one so I can use iChat.![]()
yeah dude! I'm gonna start camping outside the apple store for the inevitable release of the iMirror!
how would you add copy/paste support anyway...the way the interface works with the magnifying glass appearing when you drag over text seems to imply that if they implimented copy/paste that whole interface element would have to be substantially modified. I just dont see it happening with the way they have designed the software...too many elements central to the user experience would have to be altered and that would be too confusing for the average joe to figure out after having just mastered the iPhone in its present state. If there was something akin to right click (maybe by holding down a finger) in the software that would make this more feasible, but I think that adds complexity that they tried to steer away from in the design of the interface.
That's my point. Since the network / phone design doesn't support video chats just yet, Apple is going to hold off on iChat until both those things are ready.

there better be a ringtones update in there too
Just happened to be on the subway with a Marketing guy from Apple...He had a new inCase protective sleeve that wasn't out on the market yet for his iPhone.
Of course I asked him about the update and when to expect it. He said, its coming out "by the end of the month and will feature Copy-Paste as well as iChat".
So look for the next version in the next 2 weeks. This is no ********. I feel like I'm reporting back to the tribe.
Ha. Can't wait.
Apple employees will not get their iPhones until the end of the month due to an imposed blackout period by Apple; however, as long as they are full time employees they will be getting an 8gig version for free.
Considering it isn't the end of July, I call BS on this story because an employee from the marketing dept wouldn't have an iPhone yet.
Indeed. I have no idea why people would doubt you. After all, random people on internet chat forums with brand new user registrations are amongst the most trustworthy sources I've known. So what are their future iPhone plans? And Yea. I have no reason to make it up.

i love how the apple marketing rep is risking his job to some stranger on the subway. we will see an update. 2 weeks maybe 1 week maybe 2 days maybe 1 months maybe. maybe, maybe...
