When I installed El Cap on my MBP mid 2009 Core2 duo / two (sata2) SSDs in Raid 0 - 220MB/s write/ 320 MB/s read average, it took 28 hours to download El Cap - LOL. wasn't worried about it as is my secondary comp, and I really wanted to see just how long it could take... (so far it is my all time record longest download ever !) Internet download speed average at my place 237.50 Mbps.

Crumbs. Was that when it was just released or some time after? Also were you on Wi-Fi or Ethernet?

Not sure if you've got an SSD already but it would be worth considering if not -- makes the old C2Ds run like butter :)

On my third SSD (1TB) at this point as as the prices dropped per GB I kept upgrading. I put the first SDD into it back in 2011. That's why the machine is still useful. Thanks for the tip and it's highly recommended for those who have not done it.

It was just last week, on wifi.
Wow. Was that from the MAS or Combo download, etc...?

Was from the Apple store download..

But once downloaded, I re- downloaded it from my late 2011 MBP also running SSD (sata3)
to make a usb installer. That download took 2 minutes.

I am very hesitant to upgrade. I am still running 10.11.4 on my MBP 2014.... Heard such horror stories about 10.11.5 that I have decided to remain with this slightly older version. Thoughts?

I skipped 10.11.5 when it ate my system a day or so after upgrading. (Wouldn't even boot up) Went back to .4 and jumped to .6 when it came out. It seems faster.
