what salt? the iPhone x is a better phone than the note 8 FOR MY NEEDS.

Won't even click that link. Could really care less if it's faster or not. Doesn't matter. It runs TW and not IOS ands as great as the note 8 is people who buy iPhones could care less if it's faster or not. more will want want the x than the note 8. Samsung haven't even sold 1 million units so clearly it's for a certain market.

I mean....they are both great phones.

The guys talks about putting the speed test in terms of everyday usage scenarios.

The fact of the matter is that even $400 Androids today are incredibly fast. The speed at which you can accomplish a task between the two OSes is now essentially a mute point, in all but the cheapest of phones.

I actually have, temporarily in my possession, unlocked note 8, pixel xl 2, and iPhone X.

The note 8 is a power house, and the six gigs of ram really help. But, if you are like me, and you like simplicity, fluidity (smooth 60fps animations rather then raw speed), and stock software....the note 8 isn’t your cup of tea. I’m not a huge fan of Samsung software, and the slower updates bother me.

The pixel xl 2 is a maybe the best phone on the market in all areas, but the screen. Unfortunately, is a big enough problem to exclude the phone.

The iPhone X , with only 24hours of use, seems to offer the best experience. The build quality is sublime. The camera is great. The experience is top notch and futuristic feeling.

Great video, but I don’t see the point.

I hate these speed test in general because they rarely translate to real world use.

People just need to enjoy their phones. As long as the phone aren't lagging and no stutter, the phone is fast enough for most people.

However, I find it enjoyable seeing Apple fanboys want to ignore this, but when other times they flaunt it like the gospel when iphone beats a samsung device.

I'm pleased the iPhone X has had a successful launch, well beyond expectation.
It looks like the three contenders for smartphone of the year are:

• Note 8
• Pixel 2XL
• iPhone X

I cant really comment as I dont own any of them. However, despite screen issues with a free 2 year warranty I'd say Pixel 2XL.

You know we are really hard up for the Samsung vs iPhone argument when we have to split hairs over fractions of a second when applications open. And that goes in either direction. If something opens in 1.4 seconds on a Samsung Note 8 and in 1.6 seconds on an iPhone X, I don’t think it’s really much of an issue any more.

Let’s use the phone right for us. I promise that iPhone 10 users won’t miss the grand total 2.8 seconds of time lost between apps opening between the two phones. Obviously I don’t know what the total time difference but I know it would be quite low if someone actually took the time to break that video down, but I’m sure you all catch my drift.

This is nonsense.

Most the apps are not even optimised for the iPhone x. Give it a few months and the a11 chip will by flying through these tests.

To show why it is nonsense the 7 plus was beating the Note 8 in all the tests back in September. I own a Note 8 for work but even I know this sort of test is bogus.

Hmm.

1st round is a data/wifi test. Note has better radios apparently.
Second round is a ram test. No contest.
The last bit with the game is the grunt test and this is where the x's large geekbench scores win out.

This is how it should be. The note is a productivity tool so needs better ram and data performance.
The X is a simple phone/app platform so needs a bit of grunt for the games.

A interesting test!

I couldn’t agree anymore with this statement. The note 8 is the closest you’re going to get to a laptop. It’s even more productive than an iPad Pro.

But not everyone needs a productive device like you said. Most people just need a internet and media consumption device.

I wish I could agree. I got a pixel xl 2 for my wife and I. The hardware just isn’t good enough for the price, on the xl at least. The screen is very poor, if you are used to iPhones and galaxies. The panels appear to not be factory calibrated, probably not even batch Calibrated. There is a significant green tint that makes skin coloring look almost sickly. The blue shift varies, but ranges from annoying/disappointing to unbearable (ours were the former). The colors are very dull, but that is going to be updated , theoretically...and I guess the calibration could possibly be improved. The real nail-in-the- coffin per say, is the image retention/ burn in. It is present on my week old pixel xl 2. After watching an hour episode of defenders on Netflix, in which the full screen is utilized, the navigation bar ghosting could still be seen. So in my own unscientific opinion, if it isn’t burn it, it probably will be sooner than later. According to the Korean news, the pixel xl 2 (and maybe the v30, which may have the same panel) were suppose or utilize a newer production line for the oled panels, but ended having to use an older process. The rumor is the panel is similar to the older lg flex displays, that had similar issues. All togoether, the panel isn’t up to snuff with the rest of the phone. I know I’m sounding like I’m banding the phone. I don’t mean too. The xl 2 was suppose to be my wife and iI’s phone for he next year or two. Every other aspect of the phone is amazing, from the incredible camera to the software experience. It is the smartest phone I have ever used. I guess there is next year.

My wife went back to her note 8, which is a fantastic phone, just not to my taste. I went with the iPhone x. Both phones have amazing displays. The pixel xl2 is the best phone I have used this year, but it’s display was prohibitive, in my opinion.

Sorry for the long post. Morning coffee and all....

These speed tests are literally splitting hairs. Nobody using any of these phones is going to care if a software takes a fraction of a second or even a few seconds longer to open. All flagship phones are plenty fast to run the software people use every day.

All flagship phones are starting to be so close in every area that there are very few real differentiators and unless you need the absolute best cellphone camera available, at least for me there's absolutely no good reason to upgrade from my current phone (OP3).

Lol, the saltyness going to flow from the iFans, who used to love posting these videos when the iPhone won them.

Really incredibly poor RAM performance by the so-called efficient iOS. When buying a $1000 device I at least want to know it will handle heavy usage and hold apps in RAM.
Well.....the pixel 2 looses that battle too.

I mean, your trolling a bit, so an iOS fan can troll you with gaming speed/performance and 4K video encoding, as well as raw benchmarks. All or equally as viable as ram management of 28 apps.

So don’t troll.

Not a fan of the Pixel 2 either, it should have had more RAM.

What do you mean 4K video encoding??? We've had that in Android since the Galaxy Note 3 in in 2013
Unless you mean 4K@60FPS which fair game, although I do have the Exynos Note8 which can handle 4K@120FPS encode and decode, but encoding is disabled to be parallel with the Snapdragon, although I do believe there is a mod I can do to get 4K@60FPS .

It's fine, I could talk about Multiwindow Multitasking, Desktop UI with optimised Microsoft apps, Fast Charging + Fast Wireless Charging, Dual Bluetooth Audio, expanding memory beyond 256GB, Display Quality & Brightness, No notch in the display, SPen with the SPen Suite, setting default apps, customization, WiFi Direct data transfer, USB OTG etc etc etc etc.....

You’re definition of “productivity” and “simple” is different than mine and maybe a lot of other peoples.

I'm currently enjoying my Note 8 and couldn't care less if it's faster or slower opening apps than another phone. When will people realise phones are down to personal preference and not if it's a second or two faster or slower?

All the flagships are good enough these days. Pick one that suits your needs.

The speed at which it can edit and encode 4K. I’m not talking about capturing.

I watch the tests for fun as do most I think. At this point most of us do indeed buy the phone and OS that suits us.
I would be a Samsung fanboy if it wasn’t for the fact that they still can’t seem to maintain consistent 60 fps.

Hey hey...its been this way since the iphone 8 was released. What happened to those fanboys saying software updates will improve everything? Its been 2 months and several ios 11 updates. I thought the A11 bionic would take care of everything for you guys....its desktop level speed right...shouldnt it wipe the Note 8 out. :D:D:D

But, but benchmarks don't matter right? Or is that only they case when your device benchmarks way slower than the competition? You see how the trollling thing works both ways? :)
