I have been critical of a number of these battery life and performance tests, but these are not apples to apples comparisons. Unfortunately, due to the nature of each of the OS's, you're really comparing too many variables...
I don't think thats true, most apple fans could care less if the iPhone destroyed the note 8 in a speed test as these speed tests aren't real world usage.
People buy phones for real world usage.
What that video tells you is the comp is very good and speed wise the top android phones can challenge the iPhone. Should we not expect the comp to step it up? they had to and they have.
Fact is the average user who buy's an iPhone doesn't care about speed tests
Rubbish. And you have been here enough to Know that.People don't upgrade because they have to, they update because they want to.
You can think the sky is purple. Doesn't changes the fact that it's not. Android is the globally dominant OS and Google Play Services is one of the biggest reasons.I don't think so.
I think it is though, the amount of viewers these channels get are from people who love tech. They might not post here but the amount of people who watch these videos aren't really casual fans.Okay, I'll give you half credit for that, but things have changed. The average users are rapidly shying away from being the average users of yesterday. Who do you think the average viewers are that watch these Youtube reviews, and blog reviews? It's surely not regular forum posters like us.
People don't upgrade because they have to, they update because they want to.

simple
software updates
support
ecosystem (which is huge for most apple fans)
note 8 can not compete with apple in these areas.
Note 8 is a great phone but doesn't work like an iPhone does with multiple devices and over time.
I think it's somewhere in the middle. There's a lot of want, but many can keep iPhones for 3-4 years.Rubbish. And you have been here enough to Know that.
Dominating in area of phones that will never receive an update? You can think the sky is purple. Doesn't changes the fact that it's not. Android is the globally dominant OS and Google Play Services is one of the biggest reasons.
Nobody makes people upgrade. People only do so because thats what they want to do. Some here are still on a 6S as they are happy with what it does.Rubbish. And you have been here enough to Know that.
Different discussion. It's clear Google wants to help OEMs issue faster updates, but that's not the subject of the discussion here.Dominating in area of phones that will never receive an update?
This is nonsense.
Most the apps are not even optimised for the iPhone x. Give it a few months and the a11 chip will by flying through these tests.
To show why it is nonsense the 7 plus was beating the Note 8 in all the tests back in September. I own a Note 8 for work but even I know this sort of test is bogus.

wait...aren't you contradicting yourself here? On one hand you're saying your iPhone on 10.33 runs better than on IOS 11....It's down to iOS 11 not being as optimised as 10.3.3 was for example and the fact that Apple uses much longer and more fluid animation that just have certain length (for example opneplus which has no animation basically). You can't objectively compare anything tis way.

Funny my 7 Plus is as fast as ever 12 months and 2 days later on iOS 11.
then in the next reply you say IOS updates don't slow iphones down????It's down to iOS 11 not being as optimised as 10.3.3
Those are contradictory statements....Funny my 7 Plus is as fast as ever 12 months and 2 days later on iOS 11.
Performance and features the iPhone x is great yes. I have wanted OLED, wireless charging, fast charging for years and a phone in a smaller body.Sounds more like wants than needs. So the phone itself, performance, features, it not really the issue? I have noticed with Apple folks it always starts with the eco system comment. Of course the Note cannot compete in an Apple eco system. Makes sense the iPhone would be your choice. But, what if you were in an Android PC eco system. Then I assume the iPhone would not meet your needs no? I was more interested to hear what the iPhone can do that the Note cannot.
I agree that iPhone customer service is pretty good. Have not had experience with Samsung service or repairs.

In terms of wants and not needs? of course. I don't NEED anything I buy in terms of tech. I do so as it's what I want to buy.
I was into Samsung devices all the way but I found it just doesn't work the way it does with apple. I tried it but just work the way I wanted it to.
Was I tempted by the note 8? yes of course. Easily a top 3 phone on the market today but IOS is what I like better and is a big reason why so many love the iPhone.
in terms of features most of the top flagships do similar things. tech is at such a high level these days it's hard to find what phone does that the other doesn't.
lol...hopefully.....one more update to make it as fast/optimized as the previous version. What is contradictory about them? iOS 10.3.3 has different animation and is a bit better optimised than iOS 11, but iOS 11 is not slow or anything on 7 Plus, it just need maybe one more .x update that's all.
Thanks for the honest response. I too was on the fence about the iPhone 8 plus vs the Note 8. I ended up with the 8 plus. Just last night I was in bed with my laptop and the phone rang in the other room. Answered it on my laptop. Eco system is pretty cool.

So you did contradict yourself.... The previous version was better...for an older model iPhone...... the update to IOS 11 slowed your 7 plus down...now your waiting for another update to fix it....
you're welcome I think too much these days are made of speed tests and people using it in arguments of why which is better but at the end of the day these top flagships work so well it's what fits your needs. Thanks for the honest response. Until the amount who buy the top android phones is close to the amount who buy's iPhones I don't think people will worry too much about speed tests.
Speed tests are fun sure and it's good to compare different devices but the average person wouldn't base their opinion on what phone to get by a speed test. They will base it on what the phone does and what OS they are used to and happy with.
it's like the comments you see on twitter, best to avoid at all costs.Judging from the comments. I would say differently. Most comments don't seem like they come from those that are knowledgeable.
Have you been living under a rock the last 10 years. Do you remember iOS 10.0 and then what difference it made when Apple switched to APFS and other things?
Every year it's like that, but please use max setting on the ignorance.
Apple stock would tank because no one would upgrade.Look, let's all agree that something is up with Apple and software while Google and Samsung are getting better at it. Is it that iOS is less optimized due to cramming features haphazard? Is iOS as optimized as possible and we just notice it more because Android has improved so much?
Who knows? What we do know is that Apple uses less RAM and a stronger CPU while Android makers have a weaker CPU and more RAM.
I wonder what iOS would be like if Apple three out a phone with 6gb of RAM.
