This is so neat, I haven't used Siri yet so it's awesome to see how far voice recognition technology has come. I've only noticed a couple of typos here and there during my testing so far but this seems incredibly accurate.

Is there anyway to combine two words without a space between them? For example, when I try to go to Mac rumors.com it makes it two separate words instead of one. I tried searching Google for a list of voice commands, but search results only seem to show Siri commands and many seem not to work.

My only complaint is that it seems I cannot speak words into password boxes when I log into websites, but oh well.

Hi, I am trying dictation.

I am from New Zealand. I have to use Australian English sittings.

Hopefully, it'll get better over time.

Diction Test:

I love to look at watch the patriots play every Sunday. When they do not play on Sunday they are either on a bye week or play on Monday or Thursday. I hope they will win the Super Bowl this year so Tom Brady will be a four time Super Bowl champion.

I'm also trying dictation here. I would like to see this work. But I have to say, I usually think very differently when I type. And, law, I usually type all t!

(that's supposed to read: And, LOL, I usually type all lowercase!)

Hoops first mistake. The hardest part is really trying to think about what you want to say next

My friends always know when I'm using Siri because I never type Capital letters

These pretzels are making me thirsty.

It's been working pretty well for me although I'm sort of a veteran at this having used Dragon dictate quite a bit. It obviously doesn't have all the features the DragonDictate does but in a pinch it's excellent and prevents me from having to run the memory hog that is DragonDictate all the time. Now I'll probably only use that for writing long emails and so forth.

I've been using Dragon for a couple of years now, and I'm very impressed at how good mountain lion dictation is out of the box. It's not as good as Dragon, but it's still very impressive.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party.

From the typewriter it came, into the typewriter it shall return: the phrase was proposed as a typing drill by a teacher named Charles E. Weller. Incidentally, many typing books now use the variant "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country" instead, because it exactly fills out a 70 space line if you put a period at the end.

Author Cecil Adams.

Much easier to do through dictation then it was on the old-fashioned typewriter I used over 40 years ago.

I'm trying this right now with my air conditioning blasting so we'll see how well it works with a lot of background noise. Well, it sure seems to be working perfectly. Wow, not bad.

Works pretty good with my German-language OS X. After 30 sec you have to start it from new (they should enhance that to a minimum of 1 minute). I don't know if I will use it much with my rMBP because I'm very good at typing (fast, blind, ten fingers). But I am using it much with my iPad 3.

I searched the web for punctuation and special character commands in English but there seems to be no source. (Anyone?)

Here somebody made a list of German commands (but there are many more). You can even dictate smileys. Try to say "smiley face".

Anyone up for trying this quote from V for Vendetta? No edits ;)

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate.' This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition! The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose.

Dictation seems to work very well.

Even with the TV in the background.

I'm trying it now. Seems to work even with the TV going like you said.

----------

I absolutely love dictation!

I really hope Siri comes to OS X Sunday. Correction" some day"

It works very well !

The thing I don't get is why it has to be processed remotely instead of your computer doing it. Products like Dragon dictate don't require anything be sent out for remote processing. I could understand maybe that iPhones or iPads can't handle that sort of processing, but Mountain Lion runs on regular computers which have sufficient processing power to do the job themselves.
