I'd settle for knowing what in the heck is going on since 6PM PST last night. I got "left fedex origin" at that point, and it's not updated since.
Hurrah, at last, after watching for days my i7 has finally gone to Prepared for Shipment.
Ordered an i7 with just the 2Tb hdd upgrade on 23rd October over the phone from the SME store (for the SME discount) in France. Order number in the W9136 range. Showing as prepared on the US store, but not yet on the EMEA store.
So happy to finally see movement it's prompted me to de-lurk and make my first post here

Ordered Oct. 21. 21 days since I placed the order.
No change in status still.
But, I called Apple and got free 2-3 shipping. Nice gesture, but it doesn't matter if I still have no idea when it's going to even ship out.
Getting a bit worried it might now even ship this week. No more preorders for me.

I'm in the same boat as you. I pre-ordered on on the 20th to only then cancel my order and reorder with the new pricing on the 27th (another $25 off - I'm cheap, I know). I haven't heard anything from Amazon about updated shipping. I'm fine with this because it will give me time to see some benchmarks from the i5's vs. i7's. If I'm real impressed withe the i7's, I'll cancel my Amazon order and go through Apple (and pay the extra $350 for the BTO and tax

He may but knowing FedEx, they ship almost everything to Memphis and then ship from there. I have never had anything ship directly from Alaska to anywhere but Memphis. If they do break out the units for different hubs that would be nice and mine would end up in LA later tonight...
Remember when you would order something and look for the truck or find a note on your door that you missed delivery. Now we are not just tracking shipments, we are tracking the airplanes they are on. Next is the assembly line tracking....
Mine went from Shanghai to Alaska to Indianapolis to San Diego, in four days.
Not sure. Mine was ordered 1:45pm cst on 10/28 but it was by AppleCare. Mine's due in Monday but I think I'll get it tomorrow. Once it happens, things go fast. Why don't you give them a call to make sure things are kosher.

Since 10.6.2 just shipped and is installed on these Imacs, there is no way in hell Apple can fulfill everyones orders before the end of the month.
Guys there are less than 10 business days left in the month.
Think about it. They had to image 10.6.2 on all the Imacs then ramp production.
Based on this thread I am guessing they need to fill at least a million orders. It is not going to happen.

Ha! That must be it! Express vs. Expedited is probably enough to skip me by... but your special case probably put your iMac on its own plane! LOL!Maybe i'm a special order lol I went through a a whole previous order of a 24" (that I received and left unopened till the 20th) which I returned the same day I ordered the i7. The apple rep I had apologized a 100x for the inconvenience and wait and automatically put my order to express shipping on the 20th. Maybe mines an ultra express special case delivery haha

Maybe they are now matching flights at different hubs to speed up their service against the competition. They can send however they want just so I can get it tomorrow... still a workable situation...

I dunno.... Mine still says "On Schedule" but it never indicated it's left Shanghai. It says it left the FedEx origin facility, but the only later update says "In Transit".
I sure hope it didn't get lost.... Supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I took the day off work too...

Yeah, I'm still in the stage of "non-production due to repeatedly hitting refresh in the order status screen" as described in this thread about 20 pages ago...
If yours hasn't shipped yet (even assuming it would take a few extra days for your memory upgrade), I guess I'm in for a long wait. At least I have time off from work around Thanksgiving to ignore the family instead of the job once it finally arrives!

I keep reading about base configurations hopefully shipping sooner than CTO. Think about it though, aren't they really all stock configurations in a sense?
Unlike a special order for a vehicle, where you are assigned a VIN before the vehicle is specially produced, with your specific options -- for you, I don't think it works that way with computers.
Apple probably produces base configurations; then another stack with 2TB; another with 8 GB; etc. They just pull from those stacks and fill orders. There aren't that many different configurations available wherein Apple only builds special orders for a specific person. In otherwords, more like McDonald's and less like a fine reataurant.
