My minimum config (8-core, 48GB RAM, 2TB SSD) is $7099 before taxes...

My preferred config (16-core, 96GB RAM, 4TB SSD) is $10,399...

Both with the standard GPU. Cheap it ain't...

Yep, I won't be adding the Duos any time soon. You can buy a pair of W7500s for a grand.

However, the 24-core weighs in at around $14K which is just fine for starters.

Oh, there it is. Filling all the DIMMs is cheap-ish, that's good.

Moving to the 8-12-16 core is about as expected in price and holds with the ~2x jump in price. Moving to the 24 core is very much not in line with that. The price gap between the 3245 and the 3265 is ~$1300 on Intel's ARK site, but its $4000 here with Apple's upgrade. Oddly going to the 28 core kind of gets you back in line with the 2x price. The 3275 is $2500 more than the 3245, and the upgrade is $5000 from that 16 core.

Seems to me the value spot is in the 12 or 16 core.

Cool that you can get it with wheels and that they are already advertising a rack mount solution.

The GPU prices seem pretty high, but their RAM BTO, while astronomical compared to just adding yours in after the fact, are as usual way lower than HP (which charges $11K for just 384GB, versus the $25K 1.5TB Apple offers.)

Are you looking at the M Xeons? When I was guestimating prices earlier in the thread I realized I was looking at the regular versions of the Xeons that don't support 1.5TB of RAM.

Is it my pre-announcement celebration drinks or do two
Radeon Pro Vega II with 32GB of HBM2 memory cost really more per unit than one?

Actually $52,000 fully maxed - missed the Afterburner... Of course, some of that is Apple memory pricing.

The jump from 16 to 24 cores is because Apple's using the more expensive high memory version at 24 cores.

$7999 for a 16-core to start - it's a rare use indeed that wants one of these things, but only an 8-core CPU.

About $10,000 -$12,000 (depending on definitions) for a minimum sensible configuration - a machine that is faster than any other Mac...

Will the $5999 base configuration manage to be faster than the fastest MacBook Pro? (almost certainly not than the fastest non-pro iMac).

Yeah, man those GPU options are intense. I don't do GPU work, so I'll let that get ironed out by others, but on first blush that should supposedly be where this machine makes sense. For CPU heavy work this thing is a non-starter. The base price is just far too high. I mean, the 12 or 16 might be the best value spot, but its still $8300 for a 16 core and 48GB of RAM with the rest of the stuff staying with the base config. That's just crazy beans. $8300 gets you a hell of a lot in a linux box...

My custom order would arrive by the 27th, so it doesn't seem like it's gonna' be as crazy a wait as the 6,1... I guess we'll see what it says at the end of the day if orders have heavily slipped.

Of interest in the accessories... a 4K webcam supposedly made specifically by Logitech for the Mac Pro, the 8TB drive + 2 drive bay is $400, and there's a $70 aux kit that comes with all the cables and lengths for third-party cards.

Oh you're right. Geez. So they off the 3223 (8 core), 3235 (12), 3245 (16), then switch to the Ms for the 3265M and 3275M. Those M series chips don't have a trey price like the others. Interesting. But the 3245 and 3245M has a price difference of $3000 for the extra 1TB of supported memory. That's kind of nuts in and of itself from Intel. That extra $3K isn't really passed on to the higher versions (24 and 28 core) in Apple's configs it would seem.

The wheels are US$400.
I was in the right ballpark. (Guessed $79-129 per wheel.)

Yeah, it's goofy. If Apple was nice they'd offer the non-M versions since those are much more reasonably priced and some people need cores more than RAM, but c'est la vie.

I suggest to wait purchasing until they have the 8TB storage option because it would be a good idea to max that out since it looks like it can't be upgraded later, at least not easily. Also, it would be good to wait to see pricing for the W5700X GPU, unless of course you're going for one of the Vega cards.

Apple tempting DIYers and profit from big studios, will be a big surprise if this sells better than the trashcan.

As now DIYers can buy a base system and add later two wx5700 (or two rx5700 xt) and get a faster system than one with a single Vega ii Duo. By much less, considering Xeon demand is going down the hill, CPU availability should enable attractive DIY CPU upgrades later.

So it you love the Mac pro look in your desktop, buy baseline system with enough SSD as your needs, add later one or two rx5700xt and all the ram you need later see your 16-24 core CPU, at the end you'll spend like 9000$ and get mostly 80% of the power from a 50k imMP.
