I have a technical question around it: In Europe it does not matter if a company specifically accepts Apple Pay or not. It will work as long as they accept contactless payment (i.e. holding your physical credit card close to the terminal instead of your phone). Is that not the case in the U.S. / at Wallmart?

I am reading the Wallmart statement like they ban all forms of contactless payment but am confused of why the article itself mainly speaks about Apple Pay rather than contactless payments in general.
I believe Walmart requires the customer to physically insert their card into the machine.

Gotta say they're a glaring holdout at this point. They'll cave, eventually.

I can't think of too many places I shop at left that don't accept ApplePay (since I don't shop at Walmart). Matter of fact, I did the downpayment on my wife's car with Apple Pay last month. Audi surprised me (granted, it's up to the individual dealers, not Audi itself)

I'm an Apple Pay fan and have been using it everywhere I can since it started. I even used it at Home Depot the first time before they shut it off, happy its back. That said, the Scan and Go at Sams has been great. I dont shop at WalMart proper very often but I can get some things cheaper at Sam's compared to Costco so I shop both stores for bulk items. Having used Scan and Go, I wish Costo had it in addition to Apple Pay. I dont use Apple Pay at Costco either because I have the Costco credit card and have the order billed direct to that but I love that I have the option. Everywhere else, Apple Pay.

This is unbelievable from a uk point of view ! Apple Pay is used anywhere and everywhere there is a card reader ! Poor 🇺🇸
The rest of the world is living in the 21st century while we continue to think it's the 18th century and for some reason, we're happy about it 😐

I had to leave my groceries the other day when I went to Walmart in Mexico because I forgot those idiots don't accept Apple pay or NFC for that matter and I didn't bring my physical credit card with me 🙈

Always found them shady. There is a reason they had to leave Germany as fast as they came because they didn't understand the market

I try not to shop there anyway so meh. If I do it’s only to buy motor oil and i only order online. I try not to have to physically set foot inside a store physically. I feel so dirty when i have to. I have a visceral need to leave when I’ve gone in.

Yea, pretty much the last place where you have to use a physical card … too bad
So..... vote with your feet. Just don't buy from them. There's plenty of shops in the UK that have still to implement contactless. When I find them, I just walk out. I'm not being petty - I don't carry cash. So I couldn't purchase anyway. But the point is, I don't go back in there in future - at least not for a while.

Wait…why in Canada then? Do all those perfectly valid and not at all circular reasons not apply to Canadians somehow?

What a non answer. Might as well have just stayed silent.

Thankfully here in the UK there aren't many places that doesn't accept contactless anymore. Ignoring Turkish barbers and Chinese takeaways.... they like cash..... for reasons.... 👀
Don't forget the "American candy" shops too!

I use Scan and Go and Sam's Club all the time and I've only been to Wal-Mart twice in the last two years. I purposely avoid Wal-Mart due to that fact. I know that some people don't have that option. However, there is a Target right up the road from me and I will just shop there.
