I think Walmart is just waiting for Apple to allow third-party access to the NFC chip here in the USA like they do in Europe. That will allow Walmart to install NFC reader terminals so Walmart Pay become a tap and go system instead of reading from an optical QR code.

I tend to avoid Walmart already because it's always a circus. Parking is a circus. Getting into the store is a circus because it's so crowded. Checkout is a circus.

Nothing will ever convince me to install their dumb app. When I do end up at Walmart, I just insert my physical card to pay. Being troglodytes on purpose and refusing to accept tap to pay isn't going to work.
Same. The only times I find myself at Walmart are if I happen to obtain a gift card, or if I'm on my way to a vacation beach house and the only place available to pick up extra sunscreen and guac is at the local Walmart.

Sounds like their strategy is working just fine. Their stores are packed with shoppers, including people who prefer Apple Pay but agree to use Walmart's payment options.

If Apple Card is your primary method of payment you can still load it to the Walmart app and receive 1% back (versus the 2% back for Apple Pay).

I don't shop in Walmart. It's like a Twilight Zone. Going in there with intention to spend $50, but then coming out the store after spending $250. You ask yourself HOW DID THAT HAPPENED???? WTF?!?

It’s always fascinating to me how companies will actively make it harder for me to give them money. You’d think they’d try to make the checkout process as simple as possible to reduce any chance of the customer changing their mind. But nope

People still shop at Walmart? Huh.

Walmart is one of the top retailers in America and owns Sam's Club, though the latter has less presence in some areas while it has more in other areas.
In many communities, like rural areas, one Walmart can serve many communities as it's the only major store in those areas. Many Dollar stores do the same thing.
It's not necessarily bad but it's not as good either having a Walmart, esp. a Super Walmart.

Their Walmart Pay process is the worst.

If you get gas at Sam's club, their pumps use a version of it for Sam's club and requires it. If you have filled up gas there you know, its the absolute worst.

Made me move to Costco filling up gas there is easy. I have to open the Costco app to scan my card QR code but then I can double press the power button bringing up apple pay and tap. Takes seconds as opposed to Sam's club that takes 30-60 seconds, thats if it doesn't fail trying the first time.

Pretty sure the one stealing would be the thug, not the employee.
Several years ago I had to get a couple of cans of black spray paint and the paint store I normally used was out and to go to Walmart. I couldn't get down the aisle because of all the kids huffing the spray paint. When I told the shakedown guy at the door, he shrugged his shoulder and said, "I gotta stay here and make sure nobody steals anything."

I've used Walmart Pay, but it only adds time to the transaction over credit/debit. However, Scan & Go is the way, as long as they are able to control shrink without impacting the customer experience. Being able to scan from the shelf and bypass the checkout line is a huge time saver and is a benefit which Apple Pay does not provide.

What do you do for bagging at Walmart? Do they let you go to the self checkouts and bag your items?

Or are you only grabbing a few single items?

I use Scan & Go at Sam's Club... but those items are huge and unbaggable.

:p

At Sam's Club, there is no bagging regardless of how you purchase, and they always check your receipt at the exit door. I've never used Scan & Go at Walmart because I am not a Walmart+ subscriber, but I believe they have dedicated "Scan & Go" stations at the front where you can bag items if desired. I'm not sure how they validate successful payment for Scan & Go customers, as Walmart typically does not check receipts at the exit door.

The average person (most people) don't use Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, etc. We just pay with a CC at the store.
I’m not sure how accurate that statement is. According to a Mastercard survey from last year, more than half of Americans are using contactless payments.
People still shop at Walmart? Huh.
Well, they are the largest retailer in the US.

I've never viewed the senior citizen at the door as a thug. If you have security guards at your store, then people are stealing too much stuff.
The few times I've been to one of the stores the guy was about half my age, so 35 or below.
