  • Has anyone got this with the public beta? Or just with the developer beta?
  • Does a separate volume/partition seem more safe, or does it not matter in this case?

I am sorry for everyone who went through the pain.
You saved me from installing OS XI.

Thank you for posting your warning.

I won’t touch Big Sur until public betas 2 or 3. I want some widespread public testing to identify potentially serious bugs first.

Developers tend to focus on their own software and are less interested or concerned about other problems, so plenty of bugs won’t get identified or reported in sufficient quantity until the public beta stages.

I’m curious about this whole activation lock business however. How is it meant to work and what is happening here? If you know the password of the account it’s locked to why would it not let you remove the lock?

yo this happened to me on a 2018 refurb macbook pro 15 inch with T2 chip, I erased the Mac on Big Sur without signing out of iCloud, and it complains on reboot after the erase that it is linked to another Apple ID, when in fact it was only ever linked to my iCloud account - and I even removed it from Find My Mac but it doesn't want to unlink. Definitely seems like a T2 CHIP BUG!!! FIX IT APPLE GET AN ENGINEER ON THIS ASAP
