This may have been mentioned. I can't seem to change watch faces via the app on the phone with beta 3. I "set as current watch face" and nothing happens. Rebooted both devices. Not sure if it's an iOS 17b3 or WatchOS 10b3 issue.

Does WatchOS 10 utilize the big Ultra screen any better than WatchOS 9? Obviously both version are limited to the same bezel size and pixels, but I am curious weather version 10 watch faces use the Ultra screen any better.
Uh, you do realize that the Ultra case is larger but the screen isn’t noticeably bigger than the Series 7/8?

The display is bigger, not by very much, but it is certainly noticeable. I for one always easily notice if a watch face has been optimized to use all of the Ultra display - or not.

Which watch faces (and apps) have been optimized for the Ultra, besides the Wayfinder?

It’s definitely noticeable not just by me, but the countless numerous of people that say, “that watch is huge”. Frankly, this was the #1 reason I made the decision to upgrade to it from my SE which was my first Apple Watch.

I was a “watch guy” and the thought of an Apple Watch didn’t entertain me because I love my watch collection. My big Breitling Bentley for example is my favorite. But I’m still an Apple enthusiast and when they announced the SE I said why not. It was cheap enough. So I scooped up the 44mm SE and from a functional standpoint, I never took it off and all of my big watches in my collection collect dust in my watch case.

BUT, I never liked the look of the SE or the other Series watches that use the same case. I always felt the small form factor looked girly. The Ultra certainly has the presence I missed.

My watch has stopped charging at 80% even if I turn off optimize battery.

In order for me to charge to 100% I must do a reset. (Hold two buttons until apple logo appears.) this has only started on Beta 3…

Anyone else notice this?

You need to long press on the watch face and then you can either edit that face or swipe to go to another.
No I don't. That is a completely different gesture which is primarily for customising watch, to switch between watch faces it now requires two actions: long press and then swipe, previously you could effortlessly just swipe between faces.

My Ultra does not seem to connect to cellular as well as it used to before - anyone else observed this? I think it is particularly true when the signal is not very good.

That is by design. There should be e message on the screen. The Ultra always did this, now they are introducing it to the other watches. It’s to save the battery cycles.

Judging by the thread here, it does seem like this years BETA is a bit more buggy than previous years? Remember last year as being pretty solid all the way through (jumped on the Public Beta last year to get the new running features)

Depends on what you reply on most for the watch. From my perspective, it's been fine since beta 1. I can live with the weather being broken - I think I have 5 other in your face weather resources in front of me daily including my car, phone, TV, radio, etc.

Of course everything depends... Might just be my memory fading, but I don't remember any big stuff being broken last year

Battery life is about 50% worse for me - e.g. it used to consume about 10% overnight, now it's around 15%. Approximately the same extra-drain during the day. I used to get away with a short fast-charge while I showered in the evening, to top it off, but now I never quite get to 100%. Not a huge deal, but concerning if it doesn't get ironed out.

Sorry if this has been mentioned but anyone else having re-springs while using workout app? Has happened for me on DB2 and 3, while using outdoor run and elliptical workouts. I have reported it.

The only new bug I have been noticing on my Ultra on beta 3 is that sometimes the alarm logo is popping at the top of the watch (where the notification dot usually is) and then goes away after a few minutes. Weird because I barely ever use any alarm directly on the watch.

Otherwise battery life is OK, it last 48 hours with a 1-2 hours workout, a bit more without. Still not as good as the 55-60 hours of watchOS 9 but way better than with the first beta.

Agree and not very many are
I'm hoping it changes in this WatchOS release but for me so far the faces that are obviously optimised for the Ultra (as opposed to just sitting in the middle of the larger screen) seem to be:

Wayfinder (obviously)
Meridian
California, but only the full screen version
Modular
X-Large
Activity Digital
Maybe the Mickey Mouse one?

I know on iOS beta testing, the biggest shortfall for me and possible regret going early beta is when Maps doesn't work. It's happened, not this time, but it is definitely something I rely on. We go into this with full disclosure, so it's all on me when something I need doesn't work.
