We so badly do.

I was telling a friend how my cousin’s neighbor was ready to sell me an extra iPhone Air they have, for 500 bucks.

I was considering it, but I just can’t handle the size.
Thinness is nice though.

I used it for a good 20 mins and passed.
It was such comforting relief to grab my 13 mini again.
🤣

These phones are all too big
(yes, I know the Air is a bit larger than 17/16e .. those are also still too big, and wide)

Unfortunately not. I've been using my 13 Mini for the last 3 yrs and be also going the battery replacement route once required.

Btw @Pantelaias are you running iOS 26 yet? If so, how are you finding overall power consumption, lag, display aspect ratio, etc vs iOS 18?

I understand since I have my Air and 13 mini. As nice as the Air is being so thin and light, it’s the size that gets to me as well . . . too large. I also find relief grabbing my 13 mini as it feels completely natural to grab and use with one hand. What I have done for my 13 mini was to get a new battery installed. I can now use my mini for several more trouble free years.

I've been thinking about a new 13 Mini battery but I keep waiting as my "health" has stabilized in the low 80% range.

How low did yours go when you replaced it?

Maybe, someday, but don't hold your breath.
I think it would take a decent sized shift in how our mobile devices are perceived. If glasses really take off and you can view a very large screen on your glasses at any moment, I could see phones decreasing in size quite a bit. I actually think that's where things will go, but it might take several years for that to begin.

I bought a small Powerbank cheap to support my mini.
But I haven't used it very much actually. But it's reassuring for the mini 🔋 at times.

Perfomance was really good even with 68% battery health battery was as bad as before but lets see with the new battery how much will it change the display and aspect ration was the same. BTW I was using iOS 25.3.1 the latest release

Agreed. Apparently it's difficult for Apple to cram all the technology need into a 5.4" device, but maybe 5.8" would be enough.
I do think, the Mini also suffered from an unfortunate start (Mini 12 having less than great battery life) and bad timing (another small phone was available at the same time with the SE, which was also significantly cheaper). And on top of that, similar to the iPad Mini, smaller phones have a fan base (including me🙂), but I don't think that fan base is large enough to generate sales numbers anywhere near the standard or Pro models. So it would probably fare better on a 2 or 3 year refresh cycle than a yearly one.
I think they could make an iPhone 17e mini

I think the mini was competing against the SE, that was also small and even cheaper.

I think the natural thing to do would be to make the SE option smaller again. The 16e just doesn't make much sense in the lineup. Apple released 5 iphones this year:

16e: 6.1" screen, $599
17: 6.3" screen, $799
Air: 6.5" screen, $999
17 pro: 6.3" screen, $1099
17 pro max: 6.9" screen, $1199

There just isn't much diversity there for screen size. I think a "17e" (or 18e?) with a screen less than 6" would make a lot of sense. Many have pointed to the iphone x. That would be perfect (5.8"). They could probably keep that body and many of the components, just upgrade specs and components, maybe charge less than $600 and it would sell well.
or make the SE the small one and keep the 13 mini body the SE1 sold good aswell as the second gen

No. Best you can hope for is the Fold phone does well enough to warrant a Flip phone. But they might wait out that trend and chase rollable displays or glasses as the smartphone instead. If you don't want a big slab, you might be waiting awhile for the next evolution of form factor.

Thanks for the feedback. Amazing your battery health dropped to such an extent so I'm guessing you bought after initial release. Mine's currently at 84% since purchase, start of 2023.

I asked about aspect ratio as there were some anecdotal comments stating that the Mini's display size wasn't optimised going from iOS 18 to iOS 26. A new battery should hopefully get you by for a few more years. I've still got my OG SE but it became quite useless after two major iOS upgrades, even after a battery replacement by Apple.

I Had it since April 2022

Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on it. I would love a modern, edge2edge screen design in an OGSE form factor, but modern Apple actually seems to hate small phones. Even the Mini which is somewhat too big for me is too small for Apple.

You should be able to get 3-4 more years out of your 13 Mini with maybe one more battery replacement during that time. I am surprised it was even usable at your previous battery health. When my last phone hit 79% battery health it would sometimes die as soon as I took it off the charger and otherwise maybe got 40 minutes life.

However, I now get 2-4 days on my 13 Mini with 90% battery health running iOS 18. I did scrub the hull clean of most barnacles. I use the features I want but I don't see the point of buying a bigger phone so more apps can transmit stuff in the background. Random data point: battery went 93% -> 27% over the past 48 hours using it as I needed it. That extrapolates to ~ 3 days. If I had made a lot of phone calls in my low signal area it would have sucked the battery down faster, though. For some reason the 13 Mini does seem less efficient for phone calls than older phones despite what I believe have been many technological advancements.
