OK. So here it is. I love bokeh as a way to add emotion & depth to photos. I feel it adds a layer to the story or scene you're setting, drawing focus to something specific. Good bokeh is an artistic choice but has sadly been mis/overused with all these filter apps making things blurry just because. But I was glad to see some really wonderful uses of bokeh here.

@kenoh - I'm glad you switched out your submission as this is a wonderful photo. I would have perhaps gone in a little tighter on the glass to see the reflection but this is lovely.

@AlexH - I love this scent and your photo triggered the memory of it. I could smell the blood orange in the room. Well done!

@MacRy - I guess you do listen sometimes. ;) When I said to submit something really strong if you're going for flowers, you certainly did that. The B&W adds drama but I really liked that the background was not completely out of focus, that it was part of a larger scene but keeping focus on the 2 subjects. Which is another thing that I enjoyed, rather than 1 focused subject, it was 2 giving the photo some emotion. Excellently composed.

@Indydenny - This made me so hungry. lol. I would have loved to see this on the dressed table surrounded by sides, plates, etc. It would have given wight to the "main course" photo.

@koilvr - I like the grainy film texture but I'm not really quite sure what you're trying to convey here.

@Hughmac - What is she looking at? lol.

@highdefjunkie - I'm not sure why you swapped out from your original submission. The one with the spider would have won, my friend. This is also very nice but doesn't stand out quite as much.

@filmbufs - This is another photo that I think would have benefitted from going in a little tighter, perhaps on a cluster of branches or the remaining red stamen. But I like where you were going with it!

Honorable mentions to @stillcrazyman @someoldguy @NeGRit0 @Apple fanboy @jkramerbob who submitted fine bokeh shots but these were somewhat predictable.

And the winners are:

1st: @MacRy - I thought about this photo a lot, meaning it stuck in my head. I kept creating stories about it like the 2 flowers were people. Sounds crazy, right? Well done on evoking emotion.
2nd: @kenoh - This is excellent use of bokeh and shadows. You made the right decision to change it out.
3rd: @AlexH - I really enjoyed the contrast of light & dark in this photo.

With that, I hope my comments will be helpful in your photographic journey. I really enjoyed doing this so I shall strive to win more of them! lol. Over to you, @MacRy.

There was a male stripper figurine just off camera that had begun to catch her eye :D

Cheers :)

Hugh

Might have placed with a shot of that. lol.

OLD SCHOOL 1930'S STYLE BOKEH. ITS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME IF U KNOW WHERE TO LOOK.

No need to shout. ;) Yes, I get the style but what you're trying to convey is what I was wondering.

I'm at work so caps is what I have to keep on all day. Its carrots at a market... but I didn't realize I also updated the wrong file. To late now but this was the actual file I wanted lol

Both good photos, especially the second, the light on the sign really makes it. Hey, at least you got a mention in the results ;)

Haha. It's ok. I knew it was something along those lines. I have done it plenty.

I do like this 2nd photo much more, not that I didn't like the carrots but perhaps it would have benefitted from moving out a bit so get a better sense of the scene. The lighting on the sign is excellent and the empty tables on a rainy day is much more of a story.

I'm so sorry! I wanted to get everyone a mention and some feedback. I did enjoy this. I liked that the bokeh was just enough that you could still read the "cafe" sign. Was this at a real cafe or staged at a shop?

It's a real café in the little city here. Nothing in the picture was staged. the actual focal point is the sign. but because those tables some of which are in the same focal length of the sign are clear and some are not.

The carrots was part of my thanksgiving card that's why I was wondering how I got them uploaded instead. and the rules are u cant change the photo once submitted.

Ah....you could have switched it out. The rule is that you can only submit 1 photo per contest but you can change it up until the contest closes. A fairly common practice around here.

Woohoo! A podium place! Thank you for your kind words and also thank you to MacRy for the virtual slap to swap out my entry...:)

The images this week were stunning. Well done everyone.

I think your pic is wonderful!

Thanks Ken, I really tried on this one, to get some nice bogey etc., and I was pleased with the result after about 70 shots.

Your pic is a stunner, well deserving the placing - good that somebody persuaded you to boot the other photo out.

The other placers were also superb so congrats to them as well :)

Cheers :)

Hugh
