It's a holiday weekend over here and he could be out in the desert someplace . Give him another day and then AFB gets to pay for his gratitude at coming in second....

Well, there we are, then...... His Lordship might not be back online for another day or more if he is traveling and out of easy WiFi internet access reach/cellular data reach......

OK, so OUR holiday is “Memorial Day” (used to be called “Decoration Day”) — what’s yours called?

Sorry.

I got lost in the shuffle. I have 40 lengths of chain link top rail and 8 sheets of plywood to make something amazing out of in the next week. Oh, and an art project too.

No excuse and I am truly sorry for missing this. I'll have to bow out of the next few runs just in case I screw up and place again. ;)

If anybody is looking for something different I believe there are still some tickets available to SNRG. :D

Laird Knox - Small aperture stars and a beautiful tonal range, nice composition, contrails and a wide range of textures...
Thanks for the nod! I believe the aperture for this image was f-45. The vertical streak in the upper right is a planet rather than an aircraft. You can also see some star trails in the negative that didn't come out in the scan.

I love my D800s but the tones you get on old fashioned film really do make a difference.

Excuses, excuses! I’ll let you off if you post lots of pictures!

Looks like a cool event. Have fun and stay safe. A bit out of my way to get there!

Plus I’ve got this photo competition to judge....;)

Sounds like you need a vacation. (Hmm, not sure why the forum split this into two quotes.)

Not sure how many pictures I'll be able to post. It sounds like there will be quite a few events that are not PG-13. ;)

Although I did manage to make a teacup holster last week. :D

Well being an English gentleman, I never go anywhere without my tea cup!

Have a good time. Sounds like you will.

This event sounds somewhat similar to “Burning Man,” which takes place a couple or three months from now..... Have a super time and it sounds as though it will be fun creating your own art and seeing others’ creativity as well!
There is a reason it sounds familiar. SNRG stands for Southern Nevada Regional Gathering and it is a Burning Man sanctioned regional event. One nifty thing this year is that a major art piece called Fishbug will be at SNRG. With an expected attendance around 700 that is pretty impressive.

In my camp we are doing an art square. I'm having several aluminum prints of my images made, and we'll have art cars and CNC cut mandalas. It should be a good time.

Ah, so I wasn't too far off! That's cool; I hadn't realized that there were regional events, too, as all I've ever heard about has been the big Burning Man festival. Have a super time!
There's a lot of sanctioned regional events. Most of them are rather small but some are getting pretty popular. Afrikaburn is one that has been growing. There are many other events that are sanctioned by the org. Then there are events like Wasteland Weekend that draw some overlap but are nothing like Burning Man. Get your Mad Max on.

Another cool thing is that more and more art from Burning Man is being permanently installed around the world. We have three permanent pieces here in Las Vegas. The impact of Burning Man is getting to be quite large.

A friend and his son have been to Burning Man two or three times and they absolutely loved it each time. Not sure if they are still going, though, due to various health issues on the part of the father and work obligations on the part of the son. Anyway, my friend showed me some of the photos he shot with his iPhone one year and the scenes and the artwork were just phenomenal. My friend, whom I've always thought of as a sort of aging hippie, also enjoyed the.....um.....relaxed and casual atmosphere and various ways people found to chill out.

Relaxed and casual atmosphere! That paints a picture right there!
