I can't feel too sorry for you I'm afraid as I also have a watch habit but my salary doesn't allow me to buy anything over four hundred pounds.

I am beyond feeling sorry for me. I am I borderline addicted. I am very lucky and i know it. In my defence I am not a footballer or banker. I genuinely enjoy a really nice watch and i give more than my pound of flesh to earn the money for it. It doesnt come easy for me.

I hope no one thinks I am dangling it in their faces. I just love the detail in the dial, the difference in what the lens sees to what my eyes see is amazing.

Hope you enjoy the picture.

Thanks
Ken.

Never be ashamed of the nice things you own. I always appreciate seeing a nice watch :)

Not a very interesting photo, considering the entire thing is all the same, but it definitely has some DOF going on in it...

This was shot on a film camera (sorry, digital photography forum I know!) with a manual focus lens. I was just happy to nail the focus on a free-flying bee checking out which landing area to go for on the lavender :)

Right then you bunch of reprobates let's judge this mofo.

A couple of you submitted entries past the deadline which was 8am GMT but i'm not that guy so I won't be disqualifying you.

Good to see some newbies posting for the first time here - thanks for your entries.

Some great entries again this week - way to make my life difficult everyone. Hard to pick my favourites but here we go:

Miltz - Love the composition and feel of this one. I would have either got the lighthouse in sharp focus or really out of focus for this shot. As it is there isn't much in the way of DOF going on. A nice shot though and thanks for entering it.

Ardmanz - Really nice. I love the atmospheric nature of this. Great use of DOF and the darkness really suits it.

Needfx - Another fabulous picture from your world travels. Great subject, nice focus, lovely exposure....yeah just really good.

Alexander.Of.Oz - Now that's some shallow DOF there. Nice abstract shot, although I find that red line a bit distracting on the right hand side.

themumu - Beautiful! Love the colour and lovely smooth bokeh. Great shot.

Apple Fanboy - I like the subject matter but it's a little overexposed for my liking. I'm guessing this was on one of our recent crazy hot and sunny days, which makes shooting difficult, round about midday? Had you have moved a tad to the left you would have got the flower a little more right and away from the yellow flowers in the background which would have been a more pleasing composition. Also need to try and nail that focus on the subject. Nice shallow DOF though so you hit the brief there.

LongSticks - Really nice looking shot. You've nailed everything in that one. If I could alter one little thing it would be to rotate the glass slightly so that the whole of the Guinness writing is showing. Having said that - it works as it is too. Brilliant. Thanks for entering that (even if I hate Guinness ;) )

CharlieBrandt09 (the ninth member of the CharlieBrandt clan) - I think it's a lovely example actually and shows the little girl's character nicely.

someoldguy - That's an interesting looking wall. Looks like it might be in some kind of Roman bath house. I like the use of selective DOF on this one, it works really well.

kenoh - I don't know whether your playing to my insane infatuation with watches here or not but it's working :) You'll always be onto a winner posting pictures of watches in any competition I run - particularly when they are this nicely shot and of such a beautiful watch. Lovely macro work and I still hate you for owning it ;)

Elbert C - I couldn't wait for this competition to be over so I could ask you what the hell that is that the fly is sitting on! It looks like some kind of weird inflatable but I can't figure it out. I really like the shallow DOF in this, it's razor thin and you did well to get the fly in focus. I'd be interested to hear what you shot it with and at.

truetray - Another nice example of very shallow DOF and good composition. It actually looks like the flower is flipping the bird....which appeals to my warped mind even more.

jkramerbob - I'm guessing that's Petra? Lovely portrait of our grumpy friend the camel. I like the inclusion of the carved building in the background to give some context. Good job.

imac wannabe - This took me quite a while to work out that it was a fork. Very nicely done. Check out that razor thin DOF!

soulreaver99 (so much better than the other 98 soulreavers) - You've got a bit of shallow DOF going on here so well done. Unfortunately it's a bit of a dull picture. Sorry to be blunt but i'm hoping that you will take this as constructive criticism. There's some stuff going on in the background that we don't need to see (bottom right and left) and the composition is a bit straight on. It would have been nicer to get the flowers filling more of the frame or off to one side and perhaps shot from a lower angle to give a different perspective on things. Thanks for the entry though.

Indydenny - These lock things seem to be getting quite popular don't they. I like this one because if I had taken it I would have probably gone for the foreground to be in focus and not the other way around. I like it how you've shot it that way instead, it makes for a really interesting shot.

dfausty - This is the kind of composition I meant for soulreaver. It works much better. I would have liked to see the stamen in focus however.

JDDavis - That's just rubbish! I mean....why did you even bother - it looks like you haven't even tried. There's just one word for that photo: Stunning! :)

The Bad Guy - I think of all of the portraits I've seen of yours, this one is my favourite. What a great shot! I'm not sure that it actually fits the brief but it's a really good photo nonetheless.

AlexH - Lovely tone to this with the setting sun and I like the low down angle. I've taken this kind of shot a few times myself too and it never fails to please me. Nice job.

Cheese&Apple - Yet another lovely bird shot from Peter. You are definitely the go to guy for nice shots of our feathered friends. For me, the out of focus fella in the foreground is a bit distracting but it's a nice shot.

DShap5 (we take a moment to bow our heads in silence for the loss of the first 4 DShaps) - I think it's interesting. I like spider's webs. I hate the little critters that make them but the webs are pretty. it fits the brief perfectly.

DirtySocks85 (such a big family) - That's really nice! great composition, lovely shallow DOF. perfect job.

uvafan1 (remember folks, we were here to witness the Genesis of the uvafan clan!) - Nice idea. It does come across as a bit stalkerish but I like what you've done and although it's not a technically brilliant photo it certainly conforms to the brief.

anotherscotsman - Picked one of his photos just in time for the judging and went with the right one. That's crazy sharp there, good job on the focusing. Nice effort. Much better than the one you didn't choose.

AQUADock - What time do you call this my friend? Hmmm? I said no later than 8am GMT and yet you come swanning in here two hours late.... Lovely shot though. I like everything about it. Worth the wait clearly.

kingalexthe1st (all hail our new leader) - Film photography is welcome here. We're all friends. It's a good shot and well done for nailing the focus on the bee with a MF lens. I'm a big fan of them myself (albeit on digital) and I know how tricky that can be. I look forward to hearing what equipment you shot that with.

Ok on to the winners.

3rd Place - Third place was really hard for me to decide on as I had three contenders for it. In the end I went with kenoh which might mean that i'm biased because of my horological fixation (worth bearing in mind if I ever judge again) but it is technically a really good photo too. Props to themumu and Ardmanz though as they were the ones that gave me trouble in this placing.
2nd Place - DirtySocks85's snake is a lesson in shallow DOF and a really nice photo.
1st Place - JDDavis with that gorgeous shot of the ball. Wonderful colours, perfect composition, great use of DOF. What a shot! Tell us about it please.

So there you go folks. I hope that my critique didn't offend anyone and that you take it in the spirit in which it was intended. Thanks for all of your entries this week. Looking forward to the next one already.

A job very well done MacRy. Thank you for all the thought and effort that you put into judging. :)

And of course, congrats to the winners and to JDDavis for a beautiful shot. Well done everyone.

There are some awesome shots in this thread!

Congrats everyone.
