Congrats to the winners. Sorry i was late the title says it was until the 5th, Ill be more punctual next time. :)

Lol. I'm such an idiot! It's is open until the fifth and I've clearly got my dates mixed up because I thought today was the fifth. Hahahaha what a tool!

Sorry everyone. I'm a total bell end. My decision stands though so tough titties.

On to the next one my friends.......

:)

3rd Place - Third place was really hard for me to decide on as I had three contenders for it. In the end I went with kenoh which might mean that i'm biased because of my horological fixation (worth bearing in mind if I ever judge again) but it is technically a really good photo too. Props to themumu and Ardmanz though as they were the ones that gave me trouble in this placing.
2nd Place - DirtySocks85's snake is a lesson in shallow DOF and a really nice photo.
1st Place - JDDavis with that gorgeous shot of the ball. Wonderful colours, perfect composition, great use of DOF. What a shot! Tell us about it please.

So there you go folks. I hope that my critique didn't offend anyone and that you take it in the spirit in which it was intended. Thanks for all of your entries this week. Looking forward to the next one already.[/QUOTE]

Great job Mac - nice thoughtful feedback!

Congrats to the places....good work in a tough field!

Didn't turn the glass fully....didn't want the Dublin boys getting free advertising without a few barrels of pay back at my door.

And as to the no likey comment ....you can't help being a heathen!

Just because I drink wine in pint glasses it doesn't mean that I'm a heathen!

My lawyer will be calling your lawyer...Mr. MacRy.

And btw, what exactly are "tough titties" anyway?

Fine Timepieces Photo Forum

Nice MacRy! There were plenty of excellent entries anyway. I'm sure it's the 5th somewhere on the globe. I especially commend you on using a technique for the theme rather than a subject matter. I was glad to see such a diverse array of subject matter (not just flowers). Flowers are nice but it seems like we all have flower photos that show depth of field.

Great job everybody. Thanks for the feedback MacRy. Yes it was quite harsh lighting and windy too. Trying to capture a bee on a flower on a windy day is tricky for me (and like a spanner I'd left the tripod in the car).

To Dirtysocks, that's a great capture. Great job.

Looking forward to the next.

Btw my wife's birthday is the 5th. You nearly gave me a heart attack!

Absolutely on the flowers.....500px is colour washed with em!

I'm glad you didn't take my criticism to heart as I felt like I'd been overly critical of yours. It was meant to be helpful.

My dad's birthday is the 5th too so I should have known better. He's dead....that's my excuse.

Not a problem. I need all the help I can get!

Sorry about your dad. Birthdays and anniversaries are always the toughest times.

You sir are a legend in the making! Genius! :)

JDDavis - That's just rubbish! I mean....why did you even bother - it looks like you haven't even tried. There's just one word for that photo: Stunning! :)

Thanks for the nod MacRy and thanks for judging...even if it was a day early:eek: No offense here...especially since you chose my entry!

My wife has a collection of those blown glass balls and I was messing around with them on the kitchen counter. The counter is some kind of quartz I think but it is very black and shiny. It was a bit of an accident honestly as I had taken shots of the ball with a flash / and withought trying to get something that looked different then a glass ball on a kitchen counter. It was sitting there early in the morning and the light was coming in through the window just perfect so that it made the countertop very reflective. I had to play with the angle of the camera for awhile till I got what I wanted (at least to me) and that was to make it resemble some kind of planet in space.

Thanks for the ego boost and give me a few and I'll have the next contest up. Now should I start it on the 4th or the 5th?

Don't worry about it. He was a dick.

It is a gorgeous photo fella and a well deserved winner. I would never have guessed that set up.

Bit boring but a play with DoF.

BTW guys...

This was taken hand held, with an old Canon FD 50mm f3.5 macro. Set the focus then tried to find the right focus by supporting the camera like a snooker player and trying to move it back and forward real slow to get the sweet spot! was real luck to get this.

Chuffed to bits it was liked.

Ken.

let's make a thread out of it. mine still is a gigantic one

Sorry to hear that fella. Mine cashed out about a week before I did that for him so that was lucky on both our parts.

Nice job Ken. That sounds like a familiar action that I'm sure a few of us photogs have done at some point. It definitely worked out for you.

I thought the turnaround couldn't possibly be any quicker than the last change of competition but I obviously didn't figure in MacRy's creativity in ending the contest early! :)

Well done everyone and congrats to JDDavis on a wonderful photo. AQUADock's washing up photo was one of my favourites too. I hope you had a camera in one hand and a tea towel in the other!

Loved all the 'extra' comments MacRy. Made my evening :)

Right then you bunch of reprobates let's judge this mofo.

Alexander.Of.Oz - Now that's some shallow DOF there. Nice abstract shot, although I find that red line a bit distracting on the right hand side.

MacRy, first off thanks a bunch for the effort and time it must have taken for individual responses.

The red thread bugs the crap out of me too, but I couldn't be stuffed 'shopping it out. It was an image to teach the lad about shallow DOF at play, from a little while back and how you could play with the plane of focus a really shallow DOF creates. The whole frame is maybe 20mm across, to give it a sense of scale and that section is of a head-dress on a Ganesh statuette in the front garden.

Congrat's to the victors! and all entrants for having a go.
